New member's observationsHi all.
Just wanted to congratulate you on the way your forum is run. I'm a new D70 owner and forum member and I have learned so much from these threads in a short period of time. I haven't quite caught up yet with all the posts but I'm ploughing through them whenever time allows. What most impresses me is the spirit of support and comeraderie that exists here. The moment someone comes up with a fresh tip, a bargain or a new persepctive on a problem it's out there for everyone to share. Even when you're having at go at each other there is no malice or ill feeling, Canon owners exempted! So... keep up the great work and I'm looking forward to a long association with my favourite toy and this brilliant forum. Simon Brisbane. (PS - Maybe one of these years I'll get game enough to post a few photos )
Welcome Manta.
You are right, this is a good place, enjoy, have fun, and post some photos cheers Greg - - - - D200 etc

If you're struggling to find something you want to post, just post a photo of a duck, it seems to a commonly recurring theme.
Welcome to the forums anyway.. PlatinumWeaver / Dean

Welcome Manta - you could also post a pic of a brick wall - it has great appeal to one of our reverent forum members

Welcome, welcome.
If you can't find a duck or a colourfull Birdy, there is always that glowing thingy in the sky at night that has a face or a man in it that seems to get a lot of attention. Happy Snappen. Mic
Matt,
It's a painted duck. We stole it from your living room wall; if you look, you'll see that the middle one is missing. Simon, Welcome, and thanx for the kind words. I'm (obviously) happy to entertain posts such as your's, but equally happy to listen to criticism. Even from the odd Canon user. There's an appropriate term if ever I've seen one. Please do post some of your images; we would love to see them, and if you're worried that they're not good enough, please, don't be, but think in terms of the posting of your images as an opportunity to improve your photographic skills. g.

Welcome aboard.
Nice people here. Lots of bargains. No moderator with bad attitude. No dumb forum rules. The occasional topless picture (that we are yet to get arrested for). Some healthy debate. Lots of lust Beware, you will find yourself logging on in the morning first thing to see what went on through the night. Your family will start to think you have lost it! Regards

Hi Manta
Welcome! (also welcome to any other new members) Don't forget to sign up for your free image hosting account at my site: http://www.pixspot.com. When you are comfortable uploading some pics, you have somewhere to host them. Cheers Kristine Last edited by Kristine on Thu Dec 23, 2004 5:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.
My vocabulary has been shortened to phrases like SB-800, f11 and backfocus, I'm haunting the forum at weird hours during night shifts and my wife thinks I'm having an affair with someone called 'Birddog'. I think I'm already addicted. Thanks for the rousing welcome everyone. Now, just excuse me for a minute...I'm off to find a birdy reposing salaciously in front of a brick wall.....
Welcome Manta, There is a lot of wood ducks here and we do get a few now and then, but great people, we are just 1 big happy family that is expanding, and a wealth of information.
Anyhow didn't want to post any ducks shot but i do have some!!lol But here's some pelicans at play. Just imagine that they are bigger ducks. Cheers John BBJ D3,D2x,D70,18-70 kit lens,Sigma 70-200mm F2.8EX HSM,Nikon AF-I 300m F2.8, TC20E 2X

Thanks Kristine - will do. Simon.
Thanks JordanP - unfortunately I'm working that weekend so will have to give it a miss this time.

Check.
Depends on the mood we're in... but overall, check
That reminds me. I need to think of some really dumb pointless rules...
We need to make it more occasional than occasional and into something like frequent.

Another new memberHi Manta,
Manta shares another hobby of mine (geocaching), so it's quite coincidental to find him here... But anyway greetings from another D70 newbie... My first impressions are that this is a great forum and I'll learn a lot from all present... I used to spend a lot of time on photography when I had a Canon A-1 (sorry for the C word!)... After transitioning thru many P&S cameras (film & digital) - I've finally made my way back to a decent camera and hope to explore it's and my capabilities over the coming years... Hope to post some decent photos soon... Cheers, Leek (aka John)
Welcome John - I am sure your participation in this forum will be of benefit to you as much as yours will be for all other members

G'day Manta and Leek, welcome to a great bunch of people who simply have fun with their toys too!
Don't be shy about posting some pics, the best way to learn from the forum is to find out your weaknesses and strengths... I've learnt heaps in a very short time... Oh no, I just realised, I just got home from work after a 14 hour shift and I'm logged in to this forum... Doh! Cheers, Mudder Aka Andrew
Aha... that rascally Leek again!
And here I was expecting a phone call from you any day now about a beer on the Gold Coast and you show up here! Small world. Welcome aboard and I'm looking forward to seeing your piccys.
hiya everybody!I'm a new D70 owner having had the camera for about 10 days. I would say Melbourne is home, but I do get to travel around a bit due to my employment.
Unfortunately , I haven't been able to fully exploit my camera yet - a long story courtesy of some broken glass on a window... I had been burgled, came home, saw some glass on the floor and without thinking/realising that I'd been robbed or that there might be a broken window pane, lifted up the curtains. A shard hit me on the hand and voila! I'd severed a tendon and part of another, cut a nerve and hacked up the abductor muscle under the base of my left thumb. All this makes it very hard to use the focus and zoom rings on the lens and I can't seem to hold the camera for lond periods of time, not to mention the horrific camera shake (I'm seriously thinking about the 120VR lens). HOWEVER, life isn't all that bad, I had insurance so almost everything was replaced (besides a couple of heirlooms and numerous video archives), I haven't lost full function of my thumb and I still have family, friends & finances - there aint much more that I need. The only frustrating thing is having to restrict how I do things and slow down my rate of activity. I don't mind the challenge of learning how to use my hand and also the challenges of rehab. It is going to take 6-10 months for me to recover fully (i.e. shoot some decent handheld shots) so I hope to learn and participate. Nice community you got going here , ajo43 seems to have hit the nail on the head in the post below.
p.s. Just wanted to know what the etiquette around here was on resurrecting old threads? Is it better to start a new thread or post in an old/dead thread?
Re: hiya everybody!Welcome
It depends. If you're comfy with the old thread's content, by all means go for it. In some ways it's better, because it shows that you're researching what's gone before, rather than just asking the same old questions without looking for the answers first. g.

OUCH!! That's gotta hurt. Hope you are on the way to recovery and you are not out of action for too long!
Welcome!!!
I hope that you, like myself, benifit out from being a member of this community! New page
