Encouraging a potential new memberThere has been some discussion on this forum before about the fantastic works of photographer Sheila Smart. She takes some amazing photos, particularly on the Northern Beaches. I am about to email her directly and ask her to become a member of this forum. To view her exceptional work have a look at her pbase site: http://www.pbase.com/sheila/profile
Sheila is a Canon lady and currently uses the Canon 20D - I love her work! Geoff

It's not the way to recruit new member(s) perhaps she think you're spammer and she trashes your mail into the trash bin.
IMHO, members should voluntarily to join this forum as their wishes. Especially, with PP, they don't care much about if they see: there's no benefits for their life, they may lurk You may introduce this forum and leave the decision to her. I knew few PP both Canon & Nikon camp, I introduced them our forum but never ask them to join, same as I did with Ron Reznick, and he found his way in without my invitation. Birddog114

I see where you are coming from Birdy, however I have had a few pbase message exchanges with this lady in the past (quite some time ago) and thought I'd write her an email telling her about the forum. I have given her the opportunity to visit the forum and choose for herself - I believe this is harmless. She can lurk all she wants, but I have told her what a great place I believe this to be and of course the decision is now up to her. Geoff

Sheila just replied to my email (which I sent less than 5 mins ago) - she has registered and is awaiting her account activation! WOOHOOO!

Well, as you said: you already sent her few emails about this forum but she still didn't join us, so there're many reasons on her decision.
Still, she's not on our board! that's her decision. Not need to renew Birddog114

My opinion is: I'd rather get 5 valued & active members than 100 non active members.

Correction The emails Geoff sent me were not about joining this forum but about various images on the PBase site. I am happy to join this site and hope to contribute. Cheers Sheila Sheila Smart

Welcome Sheila, I'm sure you'll enjoy being part of DSLRusers.
If we can expect more images like those in your gallery, it's a high standard you've already set. I quite like Lone Swimmer at Collaroy and Careel Bay. D.

I've just spent the last half hour browsing through your pbase site again (have visited it in the past, but not for a while) and you have some amazing work there. Just incredible! Look forward to seeing lots more of your work here on dslrusers. Would love to meet up with you sometime, but it's a little too far for me to come for the early morning meet that's being organised down there Judy (fellow fm'r)

No Sheila, that is why we have had the Conon Corral. This board started as a D70 board, so is predominantly Nikon, but we welcome all and seem to have a smattering of all
Here is the link to the Canon Corral http://www.dslrusers.com/viewforum.php?f=41 Last edited by Glen on Tue Jan 17, 2006 11:21 am, edited 2 times in total.
No, there're many Canon shooters around. My question for you: What's the difference in between Canon & Nikon shooter? Birddog114
VNAF, My Beloved Country and Airspace
Sheila - there are a few canon members out here. One that is coming along is my mate Wocka who owns the 350D - I'm sure you guys will have loads to talk about
When this forum originated it was primarily Nikon D70 owners so it's originated from there, but we welcome EVERYONE now Geoff

Exactly, aside for the brand difference, a photographer is a photographer.

Sheila. Firstly I'd like to say welcome. I first found your site a few months ago and regularly been impressed and sometimes amazed at the quality of your work. Secondly, although this forum did evolve from a Nikon based forum, it is very willing to embrace all forms and methods of photography as well as all brands of equipment. We have had many images posted for critique that originated from either film or P&S cameras. I'd like to think we don't care about the media, brand or format and it's the end result that counts. A good recent example is here I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we will enjoy having you here If I'm alone in a forest and my wife is not around to hear what I say, am I still wrong ??
