Noob Question #7839457 (Nikon D50 Related)

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. Noob Question #7839457 (Nikon D50 Related)

Hi,

I just got my new D50 today but I have notice something different in the view finder. Everytime the centre AF is highlighted, I can see a line that go straight down the viewfinder.. I just need to know is this normal? Thanks in advance.

To people who have no idea what I am talking about...

I've used a D70, D2x and D50 and haven't noticed the line you've illustrated here. I'm sorry I can't be of more help, hopefully someone else can conclusively confirm or deny this.

ive seen that line a few times on my D70... mainly in really bright settings.... it hasnt affected any of my images so i dont think its much of a worry

Yeah, I just heard from some D70 users and it seems that some have these lines and some dont. It doesnt really bothers me so I dont think I will take this back to the shop...

This has been discussed here before and from memory, I'm pretty sure that it is just an internal fine wire in the LCD that is barely visible. The fact that some cameras seem have it and some don't says more about the eyesight of their owners than the cameras. It's in all viewfinders and once you've seen it you can't not see it again :lol:

Don't worry about it and treat it as an additional grid line :lol:

As mentioned in the Camera FAQ sticky at the top of this Absolute Beginners Questions section: (which admittedly should be updated from D70users to reflect the DSLRusers nature of this site)

"If you have an acute sense of sight, you may notice tiny "wires" running from the the auto focus points in the viewfinder to the edge of the frame. This is normal. It is not a defect nor is it indicative of poor quality control on your unit. "
