anyone using 5G iPod for photo storage/portable portfolio?

Not the 5G, but the 4G iPod Photo 60GB.

I'm using it with the Apple Camera dock connector (iPod dock connector to USB port which you then plug in your standard USB to D70 cable).

It works well as an extension to your storage capacity while travelling light. The only major problem is that the D70's USB throughput is slow (USB1.1) - it can take a while to read a couple of GB of Compact Flash.

I do have some of my library on there, but not all.

The screen on the new 5G (video) iPod is much larger and brighter with better colour depth, and would work well as a portable portfolio.

How do you find battery life, as I was asking about them my mate at harvey norman said since the battery is internal its only so good for so many charges before things get worst.

the camera connector suits mass storage so you can plug a CF reader into it instead of your camera. No microdrives though, too much power to drive them.

Seriously, the battery issue is something that is constantly blown out of proportion by a few. I have two iPods, a third generation 15GB and a 60GB fourth generation iPod photo. Both batteries are fine. Two and a half years later, the 3G still gets 6hrs our of its original 8hr max. The 4G Photo often has a longer playback time than the rated amount.

The batteries are internal, but they are not hard to replace yourself. You can purchase a suitable internal battery and an opening tool from online vendors.

Yes.

If you are just shooting raw, when you link up the camera and iPod (photo and video models) it will import them just as if they were JPEGs. The difference is that you cannot display the RAW file as it is just too processing intensive for it's capabilities - a raw icon is displayed instead.

If you shoot in RAW+JPEG BASIC it transfers both the RAW and JPEG on to the ipod, and displays the JPEG image. When you then sync your iPod with your computer, the RAW and corresponding JPEG are transferred back off as you would expect.

I bought an Archos AV420 for this but found I never really used it that much to warrant having one.
