Hi all. Wanted to publically thank Than for my new tripod.

I am 6'4" - so I thought buy the larger variety - and the thing is perfectly at my eye level at full extension without the centre column up (with KB-2 and D2x).

I have used a friends Gitzo before, and I find it hard to see much difference. Love the padded bag too. With the KB-2 you even get a Benro brand credit card! Ok, maybe not any financial value, but I don't know what other use it would have.

All the levers and knobs are very self explanitory - no need to read any instructions.

Looking at pictures of meets, I would say that a lot of the members here have these now, and no complaints from my memory. Great product.

i have a benro c something it's good looks just liek the gitzo counterpart, but i broke the benro monopod, so i have mixed feelings about benro quality control

but a few people have stopped by and asked me if my tripod was a gitzo and i said well...... yeah, and it feels good

Good buy Heath, I've been very happy with my Benro outfit. One of the reasons mini-meets are so good, you can try before you buy.

Heath glad you like it, i too have a small problem with my monopod which is benro and i was a bit dispointed at it's lenght. With it fully extented and the ball head on top i still have to as wel say bend over a tad. If i change the head to a tilt system i think i could be bending a bit more so if you are short it is ok, i am not tall but 5.9 and mine is the(correction MP80.)

You get what you pay, the MC80 is designed like that.
If you're looking for something proper, then the G1588 is the one for you to go, Benro mono pod doesn't have all its range as Gitzo.

And Heath is talking about the tripod not mono pod.

Yes Birdy, i know heath has the tripod, but wendell had problem with MP, but yeh i had no idea it would be so short, i think they are made for smaller people with short syndrome or something, quality is great but just had no idea they would be so short considering you could buy a cheaper Manfroto and get decent lenght, this is why i thought i would buy the dearer aluminium thinking it would be ok and is if you are short, but for anyone with a bit of lenght i would not buy 1 as i paying a $180 for something like this you that unless you have a head on would spend all your time bending over to see through the veiw finder. Do this for few hours or so and see how your neck and back feels, but it is a lil better with the height of the ball head on it but i still have to bend a lil bit.
Correction i have the MP80 4 section.


They are nice quality, but this is the only down fall with the monopod.
I am sure heath will put his new tripod to good use, something i dont use a lot.

Ok Gary, i recall something about the screw ontop at some stage.LOL Yes look, they are nice but rather short and thinking of buying the dearest one in that section means it is not always the best for the job unless you have shortmans syndrome. Who knows oneday i might sell it and buy a manfroto one as i have seen and cheaper and taller not that cheaper means anything, but i think if you are going to get something you might as well get something that is going to work for you not agains't you. Just as well i don't use it often and only with the 300m F2.8 on.

One of the legs has a spongey-like sock on it - I have noticed others have these spongey things on all three legs. Do these things work like the little grommets in the strings of tennis raquets in that they help to stop a little vibration? Or are they just to protect the legs? Or both?

You're the owner of a Nikkor 300mm/2.8 you should get one of the Gitzo G1588. That monopod will match the 300 well.

Looks ok Birdy, the Benro is great too nice and light and couldn't ask for more in that part of it but it is just so short. Good construction, smooth etc... but for the amount of time i use it would be silly to go buy an expensive MP for the amount i use it, as i only use with the 300 and i dont use that lens all the time at the track. I take 99% of my shots hand held with the 70-200, same as tripod dont use often.

WOW 39.9c at the moment and have to go to speedway after.
