He who knows how to laugh at himself will never cease to be amused...
Mine falls into the not so obvious. Mostly because there is no good reason for choosing Dooda. I never used it before, it has nothing to do with my history, when I first came onto this site I signed up and didn't think I'd ever be back (600 posts later...) so I chose Dooda as I thought it would stick out. Real name is Dave.
Back from my teenage years, before I could afford internet access, I was haunting the BBS scene in Aoteroa. I used to call myself Falcon after the large American bird. Then the associations with the Australian made car of that name got to me (I cheer for Holden at Bathurst).
So I wanted something that had less used characters - x, y q, z, w etc. I think I picked Onyx because it's the least poofy sounding name among semi-precious stones. ie. diamond, ruby, amethyst, jade, quartz, etc were not very 'masculine'. It has stuck ever since.
My nickname at school was wombat. 124 because that was the next available number when I got my e-mail account.
My nickname has something to do with nocturnial activities. Wombats not me . Steve " There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs" Ansel Adams.
And here I thought you were really into gangsta rap! I knew what SoCal meant all along. I guess it helps that I am not as far away.
Well what to say about mine?
Back in the good ole days when I still had hair I was hell bent on graduating and putting my degree to good use by becoming a rock god!! That sounded a bit rubbish though, I couldnt put Rock God on my CV so I went for Rock Star. But, when setting up email addresses I found that some scoundrel had beaten me to it. So I went for Rokkstar and its something I've had for many years. Unfortunately, Im none of the above but live in hope.
I've had my name for about 10 years now as it was given to me by a friend because i train problem Rottweilers so some people used to call me the Rotty God, then some one said, "you're Mr Rotty!" and it stuck. So I use it everywhere now.
My Avatar is one of my dogs, Dutch which was taken by my D70 So there you go
This is a very interesting thread indeed!
My nic I have used in other sites as well. I'm a girl (I'm not going to trick everyone like Mic!), and I am fascinated by storms. One day when time permits I will photograph them with my D70 (and crappy tripod!) My avatar is the name of the cover band I am in (Lead female vocalist, backing vocalist, tamborine, cow bell and shaker!) My real name is Jane, but my Husband now calls me stormygirl, and so does my 3yrold daughter!
Now come on stormy, That was entirely Marcus's fault. I would have never done such a thing otherwise. Hehehhhheeee. Hmmm Cow Bell & Shaker hmmmm interesting. Get down. Mic. "The Boy"
If I'm not singing or playing tambo, it's better to do SOMETHING rather than stand on stage behind a mike stand looking stupid 'cause you're doing NOTHING!!
I couldn't agree with you more Stormy, I would luv to have enough guts to get up on stage and do that.
I envy people who do Mic.
Kurokaze means "dark wind" in Japanese. It was the name of a Dungeons and Dragons character of mine in Tech School. (D&D is a role-playing game for those who have never heard of it).
I don't play D&D anymore, but one game I picked up in my teens years has been a bit of an obsession. It is a Japanese board bame called Go (Chinese call it Wei-chei I think) and my avatar is a picture of my board. Check out here http://gobase.org/ if you'd like more info or come around for a game, I'm always open to teach.
Go rules. (It's also called Go Moku) and it seems ot have a lot in common with the game of Othello (or Reversi).
There's also another game quite similar to Go called Pente... it's essentially Connect Four and Go put together except in that game you connect five. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

This game is called paduk (or baduk) in Korean, and there are whole TV channels dedicated to it - 24 hours a day !!
Great game. Must get a set before I leave Korea, along with a majong and perhaps a hwattu set also... (mental shopping list) Rae
. All the gear and no idea. PPOK / Others' pics in my threads OK
Must be all that tofu and raw fish. My user name is self-explanatory, although not very esoteric. The only problem I had was whether to choose "cricketfan" or "rugbynut". I didn't think of "shutterfiend" or "fotofreak" at the time!
My first car..
69 Volkswagen Beetle - started life as an ex-girlfriend's Mum's crashed car which I acquired for free and ended up restoring and modifying. Ended up a hot little beast with a worked 1600cc Kombi engine..wish I still had it! Liam =]

Great thread - it finished it's original round just before I joined the forum last year...it has answered many questions that have kept me awake for many hours! (ok, I lie).
My web name is one I started using for online games a few years ago and have kept using it (or permutations of it) ever since. No prizes for why I chose it, but I'm glad I did, but it's a bugger to type time and time again. Frank My photo gallery: http://www.frankalvaro.net

What an interesting read, you lot are all weird!!
'Raskill' comes from my hacking/software piracy days (in highschool, many summers ago now). Speaks for itself really. It was either that or 'Jacobyte'. The name has stuck, although some theiving b@stard stole it from me on Ebay! My avatar was taken on my first early morning walk about Sydney with the D70, really need to find something better! 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Its impossible to pronounce my first name. I've been called Ni-ghia, hia and even nigger by a substandard english teacher.
Hence over the years, the adopted pronounciation is "near". Much easier to introduce yourself. Recently, my wife's family has shorted it to nito. Hence the nick in the forum.
Jeko-1970. Childhood nickname was Geko, my favorite animal, and when I was in army, the Parachute Brigades captain changed it in "Jeko" (pronunced Jeck-o) for the missions.
Easy - I have a cat called Storm, and once had a cat called Black (who was a feral that adopted us for a while) - put them together, and you've got blacknstormy
Should change it to blacknwhite (now we've been adopted by a WHITE feral cat) or whitenstormy And as Manta knows, I sure as hell couldn't use my last name with my other half's last name - we'd be WHITEPOWER !!!!!, or washing detergent with powerwhite LOLOL And reading through, Raskill is right - we are a weird lot Dodging and burning are steps to take care of mistakes God made in establishing tonal relationships! -Ansel Adams

I'm a huge BMW fans. BMW M is a subsidiary of German car manufacturer BMW AG created in May 1972. BMW M, also known as M-Technik or just "M" (for Motorsport) was initially created to facilitate BMW’s racing program - such as M1, M3, M5, M635csi.

mine came from my ham radio licence vk2avk.
I got that 31 years ago and every electronic contraption or otherwise I built was AVK amplifier or whatever. When I went to register the business I wanted avk electronics but found I couldnt have it so after some thought I combined avk with computers and got avkomp (which they let me register) now everything I make is avkomp this or that, so I just use that as the generic username for here and elsewhere. My forum name came about a couple of years ago when I was becoming more & more interested in dSLR's. For a while, I frequented that other "dark & mysterious" forum (DPR), and as it was based in the U.S., I thought Aussie Dave was appropriate.
Not long after, I came across this great place and decided to use the same name. Looking back, I wish I had just used Dave, but having Aussie in the name isn't so bad.....after all, I am one Dave

Nikon Boy,
Well it all started back in the dark ages, sometime in the sixties (that's right i'm that ancient) when Nikon F's were very desirable (to me ) and boy i would have given ANYTHING to get one, i would have even traded my rangefinder and four Kodaks, but alas it wasn't until i entered the work force and began to have money to spend that started what was and has been a great journey (and love affair) from my first ''F'' to my current D2X, Oh yeah and the nickname was given to me by my ''mates'' some of whom owned those other non-japanes brands,(which took quite a while to embed themselves here) and the nickname ''Nikon Boy'' it was used in an effort to p*** me off, it left me for a few years then magically reappeared in the new millenium, very mysteriously, Hmmm Boring i know but there it is Nikon boy Norman
I started playing counter strike on line and was always the first one to get killed so I used "first-2-die" as my nic (even as I got better and was the last one standing I kept the name)
then I joined another camera site as "first-2-click" then a motorbike forum as "first-2-crash", when about ten members from around the world meet up for the MotoGP races at Phillip Island in 05 they shortened it to firsty (as is usual with Aussies) all I need to do now is win a few competitions so it fits better
I got mine name from uni back 98. Was in the sking club and we went on tour to Italy. Everyone had to have a nick name (normaly rude about something the person had done). They couldnt find any dirt on me, and as they always found me in the bar they named me after it.
It has stuck since then. If you see a rensikov on a fourm its proably me
I was doing the obligatory UK and Europe backpacking trip late teens/early 20's. I was staying in a dodgy backpackers in Earls Court in London. There was an older guy there that used to get stoned with us. I had long hair and a goatie beard and he said I reminded him of a kids TV show character called Catweasle. Early to mid eighties show I think. So mine is just a mispelled version of it.
So there you go. Joel
Well it started on anther forum (4x4s) and as I was always slip sliding around the place so Slider was it.
Just as appropriate on this forum cause I always seem to be sliding along the ground looking for bugs Cheers

I've been taking pictures since I was about 13 or so and have been collecting antique photographica for over 25 years. I have about 6000 cameras in my collection and another 2500+ images and related photographica pieces. A number of people and my kids called me the cameraguy so when I first started using the name I added my zip code (postal code) to it to make sure it was unique.

I'm just a little stunned. Blink, blink.
I like a bit of pussy too.
Eunosdriver because I................drive a Eunos Roadster (that's an MX-5 to anyone in Europe and a Miata to anyone in the US)
So far, I've not found it already in use on any forum/list/usergroup I've joined, so it works for me - despite not being quite so obscure (not to mention inventive) as some of you guys&gals. Pete
