What photography magazines does everyone buy?

Just wondering what photographic magazines everyone buys? Based on quality and usefullness of articles, equipment reviews, etc etc.

Hi imarine,

I always buy Digital Camera Magazine. The articles are great and it comes with a very useful disc with photoshop tutorials. A lot of the stuff you might already know but it helps to jog your memory in addition to learning new techniques.

It's about $16.00 roughly but worth it. I've found the mags from the UK are the best on the market for what I need and want.

Thanks for the info Tony. I only had a quick flick through some the other day and bought one from the UK called Practical Photography. It seems to have some good articles as well as usefull Photoshop techniques and not too much unnecessary advertising.

Hi, I buy Better Digital & Better Photoshop Techniques, both from the same publishers, both Australian & both edited and contributed to by working professional photographers & published quarterly.

Works for me too; just switched from a subscription to Amateur Photographer (weekly) to Practical Photography (monthly). They get the balance about right most of the time.

I have also just started to purchase Digital Camera Magazine. On my third month so far. Pity I just got December issue on the 28th Jan.

I buy Camera out of habit, although most of the reviews and other info in it is usually available on line somewhere or other before the magazine comes out.

Another vote for Black and White. Predictable for those that know me. Occasionally Better Photography or National Geographic which I clearly don't buy for the articles but for the pretty pictures.

I once was a member of the Nikon (Maxwell) Club.
I repent and ask for forgiveness
But when that fell over they decided to give the left over membership as Better Digital subscription. I'm still getting it! Not sure how many more years this will go on for... nice magazine, so much better than the old Maxwell Magazine!!!

check out this link for my story of mags that are no longer on the shelf...and a subtle warning about the whole magazine subscription world...

maybe it has changed since Mr Packer left us..probably not but I dont think he was responsible for my losses.


anyway there may be a happy ending to my story - after fruitless calls to the publisher in Oz (Sgt Schultz " we know nothsing) I emailed directly to the parent company in the UK. amazingly got email responses next morning. I accepted the distribution managers offer of replacement (UK) magazines but wait with baited breath to see if they ever arrive here.

stay tuned and be wary of signing long term subscriptions with some magazine companies.

I'm becoming very annoyed with "Australian Photography".

Each month it now seems necessary to phone them up to ask what has happenned to my copy,for which I've subscribed and paid a year in advance.

I used to subscribe to another Yaffa publication which arrived during the third week of each month preceeding the issue date, religeously,year after year.It seems the crew at Australian Photography opperate from a different planet.
Just wondering if anyone-else is having a similar experience ?????

Its probably much easier to buy a copy from the newsagents each month and save the hassle of waiting for your mag to be delivered each month. Much easier and less stress!

Australian Photography has been revamped recently and quality of printing and content is quite good.

I dumped Australian Photography years ago when the then editor had one of his photos on the cover for 10 of the 12 months and they were crap.

I also got burned with subscribibg to a "foreign" produced magazine which is why I stick to 'Australian Made' publications.
