I agree that with a few days off the backlog can be daunting, but you either chose to ignore it, or wade your way through it as best as you can. But Adam does have a good point, I know some of my threads have had less then descriptive titles, as personally I tend to read everything I don't always think about my title too much when I create a thread, but it's something I should be more mindful off. One of the great things about POTW is that it often brings to light a great image that may have been missed in the flurry of activity.

With Leigh restructuring the site, perhaps the forum threads will be a little easier to track.

I think I suggest a reduction in the amount of boards, because some are redundant and I think it would really make it even more lively if there were less boards so everybody can be more concentrated on some things.

I'm on dialup. I can't get ADSL where I live. Too far out of town (7 minutes drive) so I'm stuck with slow dialup.
Fastest connection 38Kbps. That's BITS not BYTES for all those that have forgotten about modems...
With dropouts and redialling etc, it would not be possible for me to open HALF the threads on this forum if I were at it 24 hours.

I enjoy it very much and often spend too long looking about. But I haven't gone to Image Reviews for a while because I got sick of waiting for them to load.
And when I made that post with 21 images in it, it took me about 3 hours to upload the pics and make the post.
Sat and ISDN too expensive so I wait for new technology.
A bit OT but if I had faster internet I would love to look at more on this forum, including some of the older stuff I have missed.

Man that sucks, my connection slows down to dialup speed at times, (my own fault) but browsing can be a little painful when it's like that, but atleast it's not like that all the time. I find it's much easier to browse at work with a 2mb connection at my disposal. I hope you do get a decent connection at some stage, (damn Telstra).

Yep, I am EXACTLY the same. It is very frustrating. It's impractical to go to the library as I have young children who would need supervision and I work. We have a very strong filter on our broadband at work which doesn't allow access to dslrusers or smugmug or actually any site that could even remotely be construed as useful in any way to work or leisure (I work at a school).

I'm sure that there are ways around it. MYOB had what they would consider a faiurly strong setup as well, and they even firewalled off port 119, which is where newsgroups are hosted. (yawn).

Seriously, not a chance! I have been waiting for a prodict I have heard about that will do Satellite 24Mbps and it's coming soon, so I wait and see what develops on that front.
I have a microwave dish pointed up the road to a house on the hill who also has a microwave dish, theirs (acting as a relay as I can't get line of sight) is pointed over the river to the main part of town where they can get ADSL. I am doorknocking looking for someone to host an ADSL connectioon and allow us a microwave dish on the roof. The purpose of it all - wireless LAN using Linksys WRT54G boxes and modded firmware.
So far, no luck but still hopeful someone can host. Friends in Hobart get over 7Km with this setup.

I have a mate that ADSL 1.5Mbps over there but no line of sight and the signal won't punch thru the trees, so the only way to get his connection would be to set up a relay station somewhere else. Problem is, each relay spot means 2 microwave dishes and 2 Linksys boxes. Gets expensive.
Needless to say, I don't take NO for an answer easily.
I've been down the path of the local politician but a dead end there, Telstra rang me up and said "There's the line in the sand, you have got urban needs in a rural environment".
Bastards.

Have you tried posting on the http:\\whirlpool.net forums ? If I was looking for fellow geeks to "share internet over wireless" that's where I'd first look, Other then door knocking...
