Installing camera software ??

Gday peoples.

This is my first post and probaly a dumb one at that, but I thought I'd ask anyways.

Do you install all your camera software that comes packaged with your camera ?? My previous cameras I've just used a card reader to obtain my pics, not bothering to install anything. Now I've just bought a Canon 20D and was wondering if its needed at all.

Eskyhead, as you don't mention what brand of camera or what model you have, it probably explains why no one has posted if the software is any good Probably worth putting your camera somewhere in your location or sig. If you have a digital Nikon I can say that Nikon View is good for transfer and Nikon Capture is not bad for adjustments. There are many alternatives of non manufacturer software.

Olympus, Pentax, Konica, Canon I have never used their software so cant comment.

Welcome to the forum (especially another Canonian - we are a tad outnumbered here ). Don't bother with the Canon software as basically its ...er... not the best. Just use your card reader, use the freebie Picasa2 as an image management and edit in Photoshop or whatever. I shoot RAW and do the conversion in PSCS2 never feeling the urge to use DPP (or whatever Canon has for RAW conversion).

I personally dont bother installing my bundled software with my nikon stuff.
primarily use a card reader for transfer also.
I get peaved with the amount of software that likes to be automatically started at bootup also.

Steve, you are spot on, the Picture Perfect which comes bundled is crap. Peeves me too how they take the liberty of deciding what you want at start up

every day i deal with customers' system tray extending halfway across their task bar.
regedit is my friend
most of this isnt even necessary to be running anyway.
you can easily start a particulary app should you need it.

bloat ware.

couple that with spyware, malware, virii etc and the average pc is hobbled something chronic.

at least at my company sites, with some sort of server we force out policies to prevent this.

Life seemed easier without computers!

I use startup control panel to manage what does and doesn't start on my pcs.

Just google for it; it intallls as a CP applet and is very intiuitive.

And it's the right price too.

I've had my camera for about a month & still use Zoombrowser, as it's the quickest .CR2 compatible browser I've found so far. For anything other than browsing, I use PSCS2.

Also try running msconfig & you can choose what loads at startup.

Haven't used Canon software so dunno for them, I still use one of the viewers that came with my Nikon (Nikon View and a raw editor, Nikon Capture) but do you intend to do much PP? That may determine the sort of stuff you want or need to load...
