Each week, one of the moderators or administrators selects an image that, for whatever reason, catches their eye. Please feel free to add your comments here. Vigorous discussion of the images and techniques is welcome and encouraged. Criticism of any mod for their choice is not. Please note that this is "Picture of the Week"; do not confuse that with "best picture of the week", which is a concept of which we have no understanding.

This is my first time choosing picture of the week and it was an incredibly rewarding experience. I've been here a while now and it's been a pleasure and a privilege to see the results of the creative endeavours of the members as they improve and refine their photographic skills. Looking through the enormous range of image styles and subjects posted in the last week was a fascinating journey and a choice was extremely difficult.
Finally I settled on the image of a palm shown below and taken by huynhie (Andrew) during the Hunter Wine Weekend visit to Hunter Valley Gardens (disclaimer I organised this event, but this had no bearing on my decision - it's a great image). The original thread is here and also contains a portrait orientation version of the same subject.
I like this image for a number of reasons - it's wonderfully simple, shows great use of leading lines to draw the viewer to the intricate centre of the object and shows how wonderfully nuanced an image can be even though it contains very few colours - the palette here is basically just yellow and green with black and white for contrast. Plus it's a great example of how a keen photographic eye can produce a beautiful image from something many others would just pass by.
Congratulations Andrew.

Thanks Guys!
I am probably the only person not to have as Peter wrote "a keen photographic eye", but I'll take the complement anyway.

Congrats Andrew. I guess this POTW doesn't just represent the image, but the weekend that was attended by many forum members in the Hunter, and the enjoyment they've had.
If I squint really really hard, it looks like the flag for Japan.

Congrats Andrew and good pick by Peter.
My first glance at it it was just like peacock speading its feathers.
I can imagine how beautiful it is if print in large picture.
