Use Of EV night at the Drags

Postby Jeff on Sun Feb 12, 2006 7:49 am

Hi
I went to the drags last night and thought I would try a new location to shoot from. The light was very harsh and lots of blown highlights, wound the Ev to minus 3 ,highlights were still washed out but the subject was on the dark side especially when I panned and the lighting changed. I have not found this before but the sun was directly behind me. How do I make the situation workable? Action was good shots awfull.

So let's see some of these awful shots! It's hard to give advice if we can't actually see the problem. From what you describe though, it sounds like there's not going to be much you can do about it. Cars (I presume you mean that sort of Drag ;) ), are made from metal and metal reflects light. Especially when there's chrome and other shiny surfaces about - which there more often than not is at drags - you will get blown highlights from those bits. Don't fret about it - unless the pic is ruined completely then it's all part of the scene.

As I say, give us some examples!

Thanks your reply ,the above is straight out of the camera, and as you can see the car is dark and the surrounds are washed out. EV minus3. I guess there is so reflected light from the track and wth white walls.
