Any partners going to anniversary meet?

Postby Marvin on Tue Dec 28, 2004 6:23 pm

Hi all,
I was discussing with my husband the logistics and possibilities of going to Sydney on the 5th August and he wasn't keen to go with me as he thought he would be bored. (Then he suddenly realised that most of the non photographic partners would be female!! Almost changed his mind!)
Anyway, seriously, are many people from interstate planning to go and bring partners?

Marvin,
Many members from interstates will have their partners attend to this event, please pass my assurance to him, he won't be bored, there're so much fun for non-photographers as well, we will take care of it and it's on our agenda.

thinking about it

Postby christiand on Tue Dec 28, 2004 7:11 pm

I'm thinking about it and haven't come to a conclusion yet.
I guess I need to stew a little longer on this one.

christiand,
We're thinking about booking the Formula 1 Motel, which you stayed last time, to accomodate our Interstate members. What experiences did you have with them? good rating?
Clean? Roomy? etc...
Your comment is greatly appreciated!

Hi All, I too would love to go to this, would have to drive to Adelaide first,4.5 hrs and more than likely stay somewhere then go to airport and catch a plane. Uhmm better do some saving maybe and see if they would let me on a plane, Last time on got on a bus to Adelaide i got a blood clot spent next 10 in Royal Adelaide with the clot in my lungs.
Anyhow will see what happens and check Plane fares, i think the boss here would stay home and with the ferals.
Cheers

Yes. I need to be more sensitive to the emotions of those around me. Is it true you are cruising around the freeways in good old USA in a Volvo Limmo?

formule 1 hotel

Postby christiand on Tue Dec 28, 2004 9:09 pm

Hi all,

the Formule 1 hotel is a cheap (budget) accomodation.
The rooms have a double bed and a bunk bed going above the head of the double bed.
There is a tiny cubicle with shower and loo, no basin - mirror - or so.
The basin with mirror and power outlet is in the bedroom.

see: http://www.formule1.com.au

Accommodation

Postby ru32day on Tue Dec 28, 2004 9:46 pm

There are a few mid-range accommodation places near Chinatown. People from my work often stay at Aarons - clean, around $100, also a limited no of family rooms - no on-site parking. When available, I get access to an excellent corporate rate at the Carlton Crest (around $125/night) - onsite parking extra. These rooms are huge with either 1 King Size or 2 Queen size beds and it has a heated pool and all, but the rooms are often limited and I can't get this rate on weekends. Perhaps if you contacted them and asked about a group rate for visiting members, they could do something similar for the D70Users esp if it's at a time of year that they're not particularly busy.

There's also the Capitol Square, which is small and a bit down at heel but with on-site parking (fee) and one on the diagonally opposite corner - can't quite recall the name, - no on-site parking, also small but a little less sad than the Capitol Square - both of these are in the low $100s when booked through wotif.com.au

Having said that, I've been thinking of Formule 1 to keep the costs down. I'd be interested to know whether anyone has had security issues there. I stayed at one a few years ago with a colleague and they had heaps of stuff stolen from their car - of course this can happen anywhere, but it did put me off a bit.

A stretch Volvo, as it happens.

Stretched across, of course. Takes up 5 of the 6 lanes on I405 all at once; real cool. There was a bit of bother getting it into a parking spot here at the hotel, but never you mind; I took care of that Caddie Coup De Ville quick smart!

And they hose you down on arrival, and of course, there are the daily beatings.

The GLW will probably be coming along. She certainly wants to, we just have to see whether she behaves herself over the next few months before making a final decision.

Marvin, tell Mr Marvin that we will need someone to assist the models in the dressing room. And that there will be drinking.

Marvin,
Please tell him:
- we have some toys for him to play while you're busy with other functions and some good REDs make him good sleep at night.

I'd love to as well and my wife said it'd be great to head up there. She probably won't attend the workshops or whatever, but instead go support the local retail economy.

The Government rate at some places (eg Carlton Crest in Sydney) is much cheaper than wotif.com.au (a place on the internet to go for reduced accommodation prices, in case you've not heard of it). Well, the rate they give our department is anyway. However, they will not allow use on Fri or Saturday night. I assume that each establishment would, however, have its own rules.
