Fastest non prime wide angle lense

Postby kipper on Wed Dec 29, 2004 8:17 am

Whats the fastest lense non prime less than 28MM

Looked at the 12-24 ED DX but that only has aperture of like 3.

Ive started to really get used to an aperture of less than 4 since playing with my 50mm 1.4

What prices are these lenses Birdy.

Although I was looking more of a non prime that has a wider focal range then the kit lense but also better apperture. So something along the lines of 12-24 but around the 2.8 apperture. Focal length of 12 with apperture of 2.8 would produce some nice shots at dusk with no tripod :)

I don't think you can find anything in WA (Non prime) with the wide apeture less than 2.8, if it existed, it will cost you an arm and a leg and a wife and a kid and your job  Only Nikon 10.5mm fish eye, it's not so popular
 If you have a wife and no kid then you can't have it or no wife and no kid then you have no qualification  you should achieve all the above factors to qualify for your lust.

This is gold Birdy. Have you been getting into the Moet before lunch?

greetings!

very interesting, I tend to use the other end of the aperture value to create a deep depth of field - then again i rarely use my wideangle for anything other than landscapes - unless there are ppl in it.

The camera ken duncan uses - linhof technorama 617s has a lens from f5.6-64 (technorama Apo-symmar 5.6/180). The other lenses available on this system are f5.6-45. He shoots everything up in this high area, and also on fuji veliva - ISO 50. - hence the need for a tripod - he uses a ball head, again i think its a linhof.

My old 15mm ais lens is f3.5, but it blurs the edges of the photo unless its aperture is over f8 - f11 seems to be its sweet spot. I assume the fisheye has this same drawback?

Most lenses have a max f value of f22. f2.8 is the fastest i have on 20mm ais, but i would rarely shoot down this end.

All depends on your application really. For landscapes id use larger f stops.

:)
keep on learning!
