Second hand D2x's where can I find them?

Postby Michael on Mon Feb 06, 2006 3:03 pm

As the title suggests

Im looking at upgrading soon and the options include a new D200 with it's teething problems, or a D2x.

Since I use my D70s for work all the time it gets used a fair bit and I'm just after something that can handle the rigors of work everday. So I'm wondering where I might be able to find a D2x for sale second hand and what prices they sell at.

Or am I better off getting one off ebay for the $5000 plus shipping that they're down to now?

Any help is appreciated.

Michael,

I don't know anyone who is trying to get rid of their D2X, I'd say that most once they get their's don't want to part with it. I'd also suggest if you were to find a 2nd hand one to check it out very throughly (if you can) as spending such a large wad of cash on someone elses well loved toy can have disasterous affects. I also started to reply to this to warn you to becareful of Ebay sellers (may be a redundant warning, but there are a lot of con artists out their). Sorry to come off all Doom and Gloom, I just wanted to ensure you had plenty or warning to avoid getting burnt, lust is a crazy thing and it can temporaily make you loose your senses.

I've picked up a fair share of bargains from Ebay, but you really have to do your homework.
There's a bloke selling an 80-400VR at the moment, he gives you a full page story why he needs the money to fight a court case for custody of his daughter, but if you have a look at his history, just a few days ago he bought a canon SLR. How can you trust what he says about the lens?

Maybe have a look at the D2hs  Great body, smaller file size and I heard it still prints pretty well too.

I probly wouldnt want to go any lower than 6mp.

otherwise the D2hs would be a tempting choice.

You're probably only likely to find it used when there's a model replacement on the market. It's the current Nikon flagship - there's no genuine reason IMHO for anyone to consider selling theirs. It's probably also too new for a PJ to have worn one out yet.

Michael

You'll find that there is very little difference between 4mp and 6mp.
I've learnt and seen this for myself, that's why my D70s is to go and I'll soon be in possession of a new D2Hs.
Can't wait for that decent viewfinder, hugely improved AF and speed

Cheers

My D2H outperforms my D70.

The D2Hs is even better.

The D2Hs can be bought for a great price these days.

Mark Latham couldn't even destroy one with a hammer. :)

I purchased my D2Hs on eBay for $4,040 from a dealer that had been heavily condemned prior to my purchase, on this very forum. The item was in Australia (Digital Rev had them at $4,950 when I bought) - made my winning bid on a Thursday and had it in my hands on the following Tuesday!!

Edit: Forgot to say that it was brand spanking new :)

To be perfectly honest Kipper I have not used a D2H, only the D2Hs and I am more than happy with the results from the D2Hs.

I remember seeing on the news, a pro Nikon camera in pieces...

Anyway, I think it's better off going for a D200. You have to wait for good things anyway.

I got my hands on an aquaintences D200 not too long ago, had a grip and 18 - 200 on it and It sure wasn't a d2x more like a d70 on steroids.

So yeh the wait is rather killing me but I'm sure I'll get over it.

I would never think the D200 would feel, handle and perform as good as the D2x but then again, the price difference speaks alot.

Yeh if it did handle like a d2x I think the wait would have been alot more agonizing.

Nah it was definitely a D2H, but you're right about it being in slightly used condition after Mr Latham's treatment.
