buy local, if you are a student you get a EDU discount of around 10% and also take it overseas to get another 10%

Loz,

This article may be of interest about the new apples and software

http://www.smh.com.au/news/macs/why-app ... 74076.html PS If you are after light weight, I got an Asus W5000 from Birddy, about the same size, weight and colour as a powerbook

MacBook Pro is the one that has my interest peaked. Just from the specs it sounds sweet. I bet the price will be a bitter pill though. Next tax return... BTW, I am down to one Windows box for PS and NC. Everything else is *nix. I am just so sick of the security issues with Windows and Windows software.

Cheers

If you are talking about the mini mac 1.5Ghz Intel Core Solo the Aus price is $999.00 and the 1.66Ghz Intel Core Duo is $1,299.00 - not expensive at all 8)

Ah yes, that would explain the huge price difference! :)

I can definitely recommend the PowerBooks. My humble 867Mhz powerbook 12" has been a little beauty for almost 3 years now (complete and disastrous hard disk failure last month notwithstanding). you will pay a nice little premium for one though!!

I like OS X. Careful though, it's very "different" from Windows, and getting used to the UI will almost certainly throw you off for at least a few weeks while you get used to it. Now I won't use anything else as my main machine. Still have Win XP boxes for the home theatre (specialised software/video card) and fileserver (price, baby).. So I am definitely not a biased mac zealot.

Well, so many prices were put down back there, and secondly, google doesn't give accurate price, it only gives me good websites.
