Bokeh - the pursuit of which was why I bought an SLR over a P&S... and for which I've paid dearly thereafter.
Bokeh ain't cheap.

Bokeh is the poetry of light that happens at the back of your subject. It is the out of focus area...that...if you are shooting with good glass and at your lens' sweet spot...(always f/5.6 for the Nikkor 85mm lens) will glow.
Some lenses are coveted for their bokeh....probably the Leica lenses do it best. Some of the Nikkors are not bad. The 85mm and 105mm Nikkors are reknown for their excellent bokeh. Some of the Zeiss lenses are also outstanding in this regard.
