smugmug and sharpeningThis is a FYI really...and I apologize if everyone knows this already...smugmug applies a sharpening algorithm to uploaded photos. I recently joined and noticed a sharpening difference between the original and the upload. After a cursory look around the site I couldn't see anything about it so I emailed the help desk. Within about 5 mins I got a reply confirming this sharpening and pointing me to a page.
http://www.smugmug.com/help/display-quality I guess the point of this post is to let you know that your online photos are going to be a little more sharpened than your originals and you should take that into account. You can see the difference by putting an original side by side with the posted image. Anyway I'm impressed by smugmug, and the speedy reply from the help desk, so I'll be using them (would like an option to disable sharpening algorithm though)
I have just opened a smugmug account also. Thanks for the tip

It seems they may, in the future, give users the ability to set their own preferences on what is donr to their images when resized (& re-sharpened), but this has not happened as yet (I don't believe).
THIS FORUM has alot of great information about SmugMug. Have a search and I'm sure there is some info on either a way around the sharpening or what to do to your originals to compensate for what Smugmug will do to your images..... Dave
