Equipment ValuationsDoes anybody know where in Melbourne I can get Photographic Equipment evaluated and be provided with a written valuation?
I've just phoned up Camera Exchange they said email the items and they'll send me back an email with the prices. Sounds a bit dodgey to me? I said to him I'd come in and pay for the service but he was a kid and kept going back to his supervisor. Last edited by kipper on Tue Mar 14, 2006 11:37 am, edited 1 time in total.

kipper,
You better walk into the store and grab the valuation sheet with serial number and value of each items. Birddog114

Not Evaluation, VALUATION from a VALUER, Sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any pro store will type up for you under their letterhead and pricing then you'll pay. Birddog114

I was going to suggest you ring back Camera Exchange and ask for John.
Lately there seem to be a variety of young guys at the front of house there, and some of them do give the impression of being a little "green"... Whoever you talk to, explain that you need a _valuation_ for insurance purposes (not for them to quote on a 2nd-hand purchase - they do buy used gear). But if Vanbar's going to do it for you then sounds like you're fine.
Cheers Dave. I just phoned up my insurance company (covermore) and they said that method of payment is fine, I just need to provide some form of proof of ownership (eg. manual). Which I have for the 500MM, SB-800, TC1.4 and I think I have my gitzo manual somewhere about. I said I can also provide photos if need be of the equipment. They said that's fine aswell.

Good luck Darryl.
So far I haven't had any great experiences with Camera Exchange, even though I've heard great things from some of the members here. Then again I've been dealing with the "green" newbies there Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
Come follow the rabbit hole...
Sounds like Camera Exchange were wanting to tell you howmuch they were willing to either buy the gear from you for, or sell it to you for, neither of which is an insurance valuation.
The trick with any place these days s getting through to and speaking with the correct person, which you've managed to do at Vanbar. Proof of ownership is important, otherwise we'd all be claiming for the loss of our D2X's, wouldn't we? Purchase receipt and a record of the serial number is the best proof of ownership. A photo of the equipment, including a pic with the serial number might not be too bad an idea as well. g.
