Picture of the Week March 14, 2006I think this week I had it relatively easy, I narrowed my selection down to two fantastic images, which is a few less than my usual cull. I have awarded it to Macka's self portrait. To get the lighting, sharpness, especially in the eyes and the transition to black and white to look so naturally posed and presented was a treat to many of us. The number of positive comments and responses to her post is also an indicator that this image was a worthy one for POTW. A wonderful testament to your ability and the 50mm 1.8 Macka! I hope it will encourage some more of us to have a go at self portraits!!

A gorgeous shot, well deserving of this accolade. Congratulations Macka; this is a timeless image that would look fantastic blown up to the biggest size you can get. Simon

Great portrait, well deserved PotW.
Fine choice Geoff. I love the contrasts in PotW - a "big" shot last week across the field with great colouring, and a close BW portrait this week. Completely different aspects of photography. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Macka
Congratulations on an exceptionally well done self portrait. You've managed to create an interesting composition, produced a nice contrast between the sharp and the OOF elements of the image and rounded the whole thing out with a perfectly matched B & W treatment. Well done - and a good choice Geoff. Peter

Well done Macka... A great image...
I think that you need to cure yourself of your dislike of your portraits by coming along to a mini-meet soon... You'll find many people there more than willing to take a portrait of that wonderful face And besides - It'll make a change from taking portraits of Joe Cheers, John

This image is certainly a popular one! And with good reason. It works on a number of levels...simplicity, tonality, honesty, it is confrontational and intimate. A very couragious, beautiful image. Well done! I really would love to see how this image transformed into a fine art print.
