Teleconverter help

Postby DANTPR11 on Fri Mar 17, 2006 7:05 pm

Is anybody able to recommend a teleconverter that is compatible with the EF75-300 IS USM. I have seen the EF 1.4X and EF 2X extenders but have been advised they are only able to be used with the L series lenses.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Dan

You might be able to use a Sigma.

Note that using any tele converter with the 75-300 will result in loss of AF (unless you have a 1D), very dark viewfinder and poor image quality.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Autofocus is of no concern at the moment, this is really a quick fix to help with the spectator fence at the Clipsal 500, the 75-300 is only just short of being able to eliminate the fence from my photos and i have just made the mistake of buying an extension tube and have learnt it is exactly what i wasn't looking for

Scour ebay.

I think the Kenko brand ones work.

I think.

I only have L glass which is guaranteed to work with TCs, so never looked into it for consumer lenses.

I used to have a Kenko Pro300 1.4x which even worked (just) with the 28-135mm IS lens. The front element of the Canon TCs protrude into the back of the lens thus won't work with a 75-300mm IS. But the Kenko Pro300 will, and seriously its quality is on par with the Canon 1.4x Extender II (which I now have).

Don't even think about using a 2x converter on that lens - it will only disappoint.

If you are interested, I am thinking of selling my Sigma 1.4x TC. Perhaps you can check if it will work with your lens. Email me if you are interested.

Cheers
