Going to Noosa saturday 1st april

Hi guys

going to Noosa friday afternoon so i will be ready for a full days scouting at Nosa searching for locations and doing test shots for the Summer Fred Bare photoshoot which will commence in May

I only have limited time early start 5:00am to get the sunrise,
I need to figure out where the sun rises and sets best places to shoot

thinking beach location, lagoon type areas, shoreline with rocks

I need to leave by 5:00pm to get back to the airport

so if anyone knows where the most photogenic locations are in Noosa I would greatly appreciate any advice on the matter

I don't really like trees, i want to keep the scenes minimalist like spanning beach scapes, shallow lagoons mostly water with no messy scenery elements

I will have a contact there who is willing to drive me around, still confirming this, it may not happen

With whom will you be flying? And about what time?

I'd be looking towards the east, and west, respectively.

I don't really like trees,

I think the local hardware store sells axes; I don't think they'll let you carry one in your carry-on luggage. Perhaps the local rental outlet might be able to offer a chainsaw?:)

I will be flying jetstar friday night will be in noosa like 8:30pm at night
so start location hunting by saturday morning

i need to do this prior to the sctual shoot, they are investing alot of moeny in this shoot, can't jiust rock up and shoot, i need to know exactly where to shoot and have a shooting plan ready for the actual shoot on the 3rd May through to the 5th, hence the excursion

Yep. I fully appreciate this, and the need to get it right.

Remember that for this Saturday, there's no daylight savings time in Qld, and that there will be further differences in the times of sunrise/sunset from this Saturday, when compared with whatever the dates are on which you'll actually be shooting.

And then there's the weather. This weekend the weather might be great ... or not.

And at the time of your shoot, it may well be the converse.

I'm thinking that perhaps somewhere around the wreck that's on the beach, a few miles north of town, might present an interesting backdrop and/or prop?

you will need to pack in a fair bit in that scouting day.

It's been a while that I have been there, but look at the Noosa Tourism web site:

Give the tourism bureau a call as well. This would promote their area and I'm sure they can give you either contacts or suggestions.

Sections of the Noosa Nat Park that are close:

Note that Nat Parks can attract a fee for a permit, I know you would need one in NSW and Vic, not sure about Qld.

Since it is still early in Qld, the locals will eventually get out of bed and post some suggestions here,

Have a look at this link, it will give you some times for sunrise/sunset and the tides as well. It will be important things to know when shooting at the beach.

thanks guys this shoot is gettign more and more complicated

up to now i have secure dmy lihgting technician guy I used him last year

we have organized the hire of two outdoor strobe lights and a generator that can power both
originally i wante dto use point lights but they only work in low light conditions
strobes are too powerful and the agle of light coverage is too wide for small kids on adults you can narrow the light with a snoot but with kids half their size you can't do much

most of my art directed shots will happen shallow water kids splashing the water and the strobes illuminating the splashes at high sync 1/250

although using the lights is effective only in low light i.e Early morning sun and sunset, the light shifts after half an hour so we have to work quick

aother problem is the kids they get cold so shooting at 5:00am sunrise and then 5:00pm sunset when it does get cold may will be a big issue

day 2 boys shoot rocks

day 3 re-visits

good to mix things up but hard to pack up kids and equipment and move locations during 1 day

i have to shoot 32 garments most of them are girls

I am just scoping out possible locations
I have never been to noosa, only seen images on the internet but everythign is always different when on location i have to consider many things like the direction of the sun at certain times of the day, the public, logistical issues getting to places we will be carrying alot of crap
I need to be there to accurately guage the scene, only taking landscape shots of the locales i think are fit for the shoot

I don't know much about sites at noosa but I would sugest you get a tide chart, usually available at bait/tacle shops.
It will bive you sunrise/sunset times plus high/low tide times and heights, maybe relevant if wanting to use beach/rock shallow water & kids.

Sunrise will be at 6:12 on May 4th. Doesn't make it any warmer, but sleep in a bit longer.

Average temperatures for May: High 23 Low 14

Being early May, you may be lucky and get on the warmer side.

Where are Zeeke and Dug, are they not Sunshine Coast located?

Personally I dont know many Lagoon type areas in Noosa. Mostly open Beach. Has been hard hit with a recent cyclone (not Larry).
Plenty of opportunities up at the Noosa Heads,Tewantin, Noosa Ville area. Plus the Hinterland - Glass House mountains etc etc. A lot of Mangrove on the islands.

Mate if it is a lagoon you are after with no backdrop, why not wander down to Narrabeen Lakes? Cheap, close and can easily be put off if the weather isn't co-operating. Remember, that very famous aussie TV series Spyforce was predominantly shot at Narrabeen Lakes

Last time I went to Noosa there was no sand on the beach - it had all been washed away... It looked pretty ugly actually...
That was a few years ago, I'm sure they've replaced it by now...

Why don't you check the locality out on Google Earth... If you do that, you will see that there are headlands, lagoons, rivers and you can get a pretty good idea of where sunrise shots may work etc...

the wreck on the beach north of Noosa is /as called the Cheri-Venture. It is pretty much just an orange stain on the sand at Rainbow beach now.

I've buzzed around Noosa a few times and was last up there in January. Here's a shot from the north looking south towards Noosa. (Complete with rotor blade, sorry!)

The sandy spit look interesting because it gets full sunrises and sunsets due to the land being pretty flat to the west. I imagine the current might get pretty strong for kids to paddle in, but the locals can probably advise you there. On the right hand side of the photo (ie western side) there is a little mini-bay which looks interesting. I reckon there could be some quite surreal shots available there. I've only ever seen 4WDs anywhere near there, so if you have a contact who is willing to drive you, then make sure they have a 4WD.

The wreck north of Noosa is still fit to clamber, but its on a straight bit of beach with the waves hitting it dead-on, so probably not a place for kids splashing the water.

Thadeus that wreck is no longer there. As steve said it has been bulldozed into a stain on the sand.
