How many of you actually prints your photos?I'm just wondering how many people actually print their photos and at what percentage?
Of my non-work photos, i probably print about 5% of them. cheers, Andrew
Canon make photocopiers and stick lenses on them....
Andrew, I print just the occasional one. Basically because they will just sit in my filing cabinet! I have used the Momento albums a couple of times lately, and this is a great way to print images particularly of trips or special projects.

Padey,
We haven't had our camera for very long... only since Christmas last year, so we haven't printed that many. From our recent trip to Vietnam we had around 1500 photos and ended up printing 650. Before that we'd only gotten photos printed one other time, which was an assortment from various family functions and smaller holidays. I'd say maybe we print about 10-30%...that's after deleting some altogether. macka
5%-10% I guess, and only of significant things, likes trips away, Xmas, parties, I'll occasionally slip a few of my more artistic shots in, but no too many. It's mainly Katie (my wife) that drives the printing of shots, so she can fill her albums.
I'd say I print less then 1% of images I take. What I do instead is make "electronic albums" on a DVD using ProShow Gold and look at them on a large TV screen. The quality of these slideshows is excellent and you can add music. It's almost like watching a video as you can add movement like panning, zooming in or out and rotating. They are fun to watch and alot cheaper than making prints (The price of a blank DVD + the software at US$70).
Also as Oneputt mentioned Momento books are a great way of putting together a collection of images and I find it better than a standard album as you can custom design it. Quality is excellent. ______________ Cheers, Paul. Last edited by sydneywebcam on Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:21 am, edited 1 time in total.
I print probably 25%-50% of the shots that I would consider great shots.
Probably ends up being 5% of the total shots I keep I guess. I put all the great ones in a folder that I can pull out and show people. I've just got myself a copy of proshow gold as well and am planning to learn how to use that so I can send my DVD's to family/friends. Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com
Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
Same sort of percentages here too Padey. Less than 5%. I haven't got a brilliant printer, the kids are always using up the ink and my local Harvey Norman not only does great A3 prints at an excellent price but the staff down there think I take pretty good shots! (Poor deluded fools) I know it's just sales pitch but it's more praise than I get from my old Hewlett Packard 3-in-1 at home!

Similar to Craig, most of our shots are printed by She Who Must Be Obeyed (unless you don't actually ASK her for permission to buy a tripod, in which case there are no actual orders to disobey...). She is into scrapbooking etc, so printed photos are a must. For any given shoots, I will have a couple at least that I think are "print-worthy", so I save em up and get them printed in batches when I feel like it. The best ones get the full 8"x10" or 8"x12" treatment too (at least until I can find a place that makes bigger prints at a good price).
As a percentage though, I would say much less than 5% (but that might have something to do with my tendency to blaze away at everything, with a "I'll sort out the crap ones later" mentality)
Probably about 5% of my 'good shots' end up getting printed. That equates to a lot less than 1% of total shots.
Andrew
I print about 10% of the one's I've PP'd, but also produce a Momento Book of my best images each year (see this link for the online preview of last year's book) that way I have a more viewable record of the best of my work. Peter

Re: How many of you actually prints your photos?
Aside from work, I don't really print at all. The closest I've come is printing gifts for people. I've been thinking of printing a nice pano for my bedroom wall, but I have to come up with the concept first, then shoot it. Something orange from the desert perhaps. Give it another year or two http://www.moz.net.nz
have bicycle, will go to Critical Mass
I rarely print up any of my work.
When I was at Uni, I did it all the time... mostly because I had to... and because you spend so much time per image plus money per image that it all works out in the end and not only they but you want to see the final product. Likewise, when I'm doing some photojournalism, I'll usually print out maybe 10% of the photos I've shot. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

i don't print any of them unless it's commercial work then it's commercially printed in mags etc
i keep photos i want to show on my website or on my epson p2000
I always print the best images . My walls are full of them in various sizes.
To me that's what it"s all about , taking a good photo framing it and hanging it on a wall for everyone too see . I do a lot of printing as I do a lot work for family and friends , they want prints . I have a local photo shop which give me a very rate on prints $4 for 8x12 enlargement.
Last photo I printed was a huge print for my mum and step dad for christmas, I spent a pretty penny on the quality of the print then another few pretty pennys getting the frame professionally done, it paid off!
other than that I get a fair few photo's printed from time to time and when I have money. Are we there yet?
I print about 20%, but all of them are of our twins. I haven't , as yet, printed any of my personal or "non-kids" photos.....mainly because we are planning to move soon and I'm not allowed to put holes in the wall (sound familiar anyone ??)
Once we build our new house, I will be commissioning myself to do the artwork for the entire house.....so quite a few will get printed (and BIG too ). It is interesting to read that the percentage of printing is quite minimal. Perhaps we should all be looking at the 4MP d2H instead of the 10MP D200 ? Dave

I rarely print my images, but like Matt.K. says, I have noticed some nuances that are only present in the print. I want to start printing out more, because I love fingering through photographs.

Off topic a moment - Aussie Dave, when you get the artwork done for you house, be sure to post some shots of them hanging on the walls would love to see what you come up with.
Don't underestimate the D2h. I have printed many images from mine and they look great at A4 size. No-one's complained about their prints yet. Besides, it's physically bigger than a D200 so it must be better. I have printed but never at 6x4. (When i say never, what i really mean is i have never used a photo shop style printing service.) I prefer to print larger so i can see the pic. I have a few images hanging on my walls at home (and at work) and they make great gifts to friends too. Steve.

How big did you print it? Andrew

I rarely print photos now, When I was using film I would be excited to get the developed prints. With digital photos I usually just do up cds for friends and family, then they can choose wether to print them or not. So for me it would be well under 1% of my shots.
More fishing, more sport, more photo's Pentax 1stds
I don't print that often but when I do, I tend to do it in batches of 10+ though it's usually as gifts for friends and family. *sigh* my walls are really bare at the moment
