Canon do not loose money on this special deal, don't you think how smart are their marketing guys? they earned more than 6 figures/ annualy.

You're on right track, with the new customer base, they will double their profits and listen: Canon may not get involve with this directly but indirect from their channel resellers/ stores.

Well very few of us know the details of the 'special' deal, so we don't know if they are taking a loss, or just selling at cost etc I don't know so I won't try to comment. I was just trying to show that there are marketing advantages at selling things at a loss, or at cost price, to gain the intial customer base.

Another good example would be the console industry, often the hardware you buy is priced less then the components to make it, but they make it all back by charging you $80-$120 bucks on the games, it's all about getting the customer on board, and then taking them for all there cash later.

Spot on! How much a basic inkjet printer cost? and how much does an end user have to pay for its consumables down the track. It's the give away deal, isn't it? think again.

There is, actually, but it's about where the multi-select control is on the D70, immediately to the right of the LCD.

Actually that wheel is a "toggle", or rather a small joystick-like bit similar to that found on some mobile phones (like those SonyEricsson make).

It's supposed to be similar to the d-pad (directional pad) that Nikon uses.

Birdy, it's for that exact reason that 3 of my tanks are out of ink on my i865 and I refuse to top them up at this time, printing solely in greyscale or red.

Prices & deals + conditions will be revealed soon on this board and will offer to all qualified members who wishes to come with Canon from originally Nikon.

To start with, a top special Canon deals with lenses are only offered to a limited number of people on this board (The Top Gun  )as trial and this deal is directed from Canon Australia.

Sounds to good to be true.
I've held off getting some xtra stuff for the nikon as i wanted to go back to canon, hope the offer is open to everyone and not just the elite top posters.

Leigh, have you had your breakfast yet? :P

The "joystick" is just above the QCD (Quick Control Dial) on the back of the camera (the one with the SET button in the middle) that I think Gary was referring to.

Thanx for the clarification, Dave.

It's been a few months since we've had a serious play with a 5D, so the specifics are somewhat (like much of my memory these days) less than specific, if you get my drift.

By the way, has anyone mentioned the $500 cashback from Canon Australia when you buy a 5D (between 20/3/06 and 31/5/06)?

http://www.canon.com.au/specialoffers/

Of course as usual you have to buy it from an accredited dealer, but unlike the last lot of rebates you don't have to purchase particular lenses/flashes to be eligible.

Of course, all Canon gears (not grey import) selling in Australia are 100% from accredited Canon Australia dealers or resellers and they're canon Australia stock.

That offer is still higher price than the deal which I've seen, offered to few members on this board after its cash back.

Yes, but it is still with D70, we are talking about Canon 5D with market value.

Don't forget the lenses to work with new Canon, it's the one we need to consider: one to one or equivalent, while stock last.

Probably one of the 6 variants (not even counting the IS version) of the 75-300mm/4-5.6. There have been 3 versions ("", "II", and "III") each with a USM (actually "micro-USM") and non-USM alternatives.
Oh yeah, and the 90-300mm/4.5-5.6 (again, with micro-USM and non-USM versions).

They can all be classified as plastic kit lenses. Does that make them a match?

Alpha 7 remember for the 5D or any D-SLR FF (Canon,Kodak, Mamiya....) you must use top class lenses otherwise you could not really appreciate the advantage of FF.

.........They can all be classified as plastic kit lenses. Does that make them a match?

Unfortunately we do not have all of the facts as yet. I think it's disrespectful to Thanh, and to myself, to speculate on this without access to the full details, and I really wish that people would stop trying to second guess what the deal is.

Thah has undertaken to give me those details, and I'm prepared to wait for him to follow through on that undertaking.

And I'm about to send that email off to Optus regarding the abuse of our system by one of our users. My expectation is that this may take up to 48 hours to get a meaningful response from them, but the people who handle abuse issues are generally pretty good.

I'm telling you this, Canon 5D/ Stock from Canon Australia, I sold today to my Coporate Customer 5 units @ $4980.00 GST Inc. body only, before rebate (cash back).

3g's for a 5d is cheap, but its not negligable and its not stealing.

3g's for a 5d is cheap, but its not negligable and its not stealing.

+ the lens one for one. (This one is a marvellous deal and people need it)

What are you expecting? Free? swapping D70 for a 5D without any extra payment? even with D200, you have to look at least or more than $1500.00 to swap over.

Can you find any deal with local stock of 5D for less than 4K atm?

Given that unless someone has broken the confidentiality agreements that have been mentioned (for the early deals) we don't actually have any of the details of those early deals, I really think that you're talking out of order here, and again I'm going to ask you to please allow the facts to present themselves before you make any further comments.

MATT,

Don't you know Canon lenses are more expensive than Nikkor glasses?

Look at the initial post of Stubbsy, you'll see the "stealing deal" in this package with the lenses he had and the lenses he's just received.

You may not work it out, perhaps you're not familiar with Canon gears, but I'm telling you, to add up the cost of the whole list of his Nikon gears and his new Canon gears, will shock you.

Canon 5D body is just a small part of the deal and the lenses are the big bucks.

I certainly don’t expect to pay nothing. Just 3 grand is outta my reach atm
I am tempted, because I really miss my eos and I’m still getting used to the d70 even after having it for a while. It’s just not quite as sweet a deal as I had worked out in my head given others comments.

I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"

How much do you think your D70 worth in selling it in used market? and what Nikon lenses do you have? and is your D70 = Canon 5D in pricing @ brand new stock?

I know if it's @3k lot of people won't bite coz their financial commitments, that why the best deals just were emailed & offered to few members as trial.

Having said that, I think some people just feel left out. And left wondering why they weren't offered one of those deals. Adding to that ,since those that are offered can't really give any details of there special offer.

Its interesting and like everyone else on this forum that didn't get those offer, are wondering what was so good about it.

And how it must of been a Deal that knock the socks off Stubbsy to take up the offer. I remember testing out two of Stubbys lens at the mini meet. those alone and the other lens that I don't know of is already a couple of grand.

Well thats also part of the equation, as i already jumped from canon i don't have a whole heap invested in nikon gear. One lens that was the kit lens, and a tamron zoom, thats it. I sold some of the non stuffed canon gear to fund the d70 purchase, so going back isnt all roses as i presume the one for one lens deal is nikkor stuff only.

And there's my point!

And you say $3K is out of your range at the moment. What about $2.5K?

$2K?

$1.5K?

I'm not suggesting for a moment that any of these are realistic, nor on offer. Nor do I want the answer that you'd like to hear, because that would probably be closeer to $200! :)

The only answer that I want to see here is what, really, would be within your reach. So, we know that $3K is too much for you, right now.

What is your ballpark number?

Well, yes.

But I'm getting a little confused now.

I've lost count of the number of times that I've said this is one part of what I'm looking into in this.

Is there some part of that statement that I'm not stating clearly enough?

And if it's as clear as I believe it to be, why are others still asking those same questions, again and again, rather than leaving it to the dialog that that I'm having with Thanh on this?

Ok, now I'm really confused.

Stubbsy got his kit earlier this week. Gieven that he's had his gear for just a few days, to which minimeet are you referring when you say that you've tested two of his lenses?

or am I missing something here?

So why did you jump to Nikon ?
