 Greetings all,
I too received an email the other day asking if I would swap my Nikon gear and replacing it with another manufacturers product. I have always been very happy with my D2X, it's a very fine product but there has also been that lingering thought in the back of my mind as to what it would be like using the "other product".
Well since Peter and Glen started the ball rolling earlier this week, it gave me time to seriously think the senario over. The benefits of this other product is very comprehensive, it has a myriad of features that Nikon cannot match. The major one for me being that it's full frame.
The price offered to me for this camera would be considered as a "steal". Definitely cheaper than purchasing a Nikon D50 (body only).
I have just receive my package today and have just checked the camera out. Although the buffer and FPS cannot match the Nikon D2x, the fact that it's full frame really makes this camera shine.
I am in the process of loading a picture of this camera on the internet for all to see and appear on this thread later on. Just sit tight!

What I want to know is when is Canon going to sell me some of the lenses that they have been gathering See here but not holding my breath, I'll wait
Hope you are having fun Andrew with the new "toy" - and the others. Dreamhost probably has been complaining to Gary about all this extra traffic the forums are experiencing!!
 cheers,

You have convinced me to go that way also. I have sourced a second hand D70 and some lenses and the thought of being able to swap them 1 for 1 and pick up 12 months warrenty is just too good to let go. Sorry Nikon...it's been great knowing you. Regards

Then you have to invest into two systems and they're not cheap if you're going to pick the right gears.
Trade-ins will help you to minimize the burdens and commitments, I'm sure this deal is required trade-ins as its rules & conditions.Birddog114

 Yep.
One of the problems with the FF Canons is that the wide-angle lens options for Canon aren't as good as Nikons (IMHO). I know of a number of guys who have the 1DsMkII and use the Nikon 17-35mm f/2.8 on them via adapters rather than use the Canon equivalent lenses.

The Canon 16-35 is a little average from what I have read, yes. The 17-40 beats it (except of course the 16-35 is f2.8 and the 17-40 f4).
But for field of view ... on a FF Canon body you can use the 24-70 or similar which gives the same field of view as the 17-35 on the Nikon crop body.Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Yep, the 17-40/4 is quite good, most of the Canon people I know use that instead of the much more expensive Canon 16/17-35/2.8 lenses DionM wrote:But for field of view ... on a FF Canon body you can use the 24-70 or similar which gives the same field of view as the 17-35 on the Nikon crop body.
Yep, I wasn't discounting that, but if you have a FF DSLR, you'd want to use your 16/17-35, just as you did with your Film camera. And I posted that comment in reference to shutterbug's comment about not having to trade in ALL your gear - you can keep your Nikon lenses (well, at least some of them) as there are people who'd use a Nikon wide-angle or even Carl Zeiss wide-angle on their bodies than the Canon equivalents.

I hear that they'll offer a buffer upgrade in a number of months to bring in it into line with with the competition. Return to service centre, and they'll bring it up to 36!
Are you finding parallax error to be a major problem with the MaxiBrite (TM) viewfinder? Apparently the AF speed is quite impressive

After further research you've been had! At least for a D2X trade, you should have been able to pick up a 120CFN!
COLOR FLASH The incredible color-flash technology - responsible for quite a lot of heat and bother among the Lomographic crowd - has now been extended to the iconic medium-format Holga. Using a combination of colored flash light and a long shutter exposure, this revolutionary item can create some of the most mind-blowing images that you have ever seen. When this new functionality is paired with the Holga's already hectic characteristics (soft focus, light leaks, vignetting), the results are devastating.

 Color Flash Wheel
A plastic wheel assembly inside the flash allows you to choose one of three permanently mounted color gels (yellow, blue, red) or a clear flash. For ease and pleasure, the colors are labeled on top of the camera as well.

 Daniel,
The holga takes 6cmx6cm so the maximum number of frames is 24.
It's actually more accurate to not look through the MaxiBrite (TM) viewfinder
AF speed? Thats a funny one! It's got 4 setting, a picture with one person in it (supposedly to represent 1 metre), a picture with 2 adults and one child holding hands (3 metres), a picture with 8 adults holding hands (10 metres) and a mountain (infinity)
The exposure mod e very complicated as well, you either select the sun or the cloud.

this one been sitting in the cupboard for a few years with a roll of NPH still in it I got to admit, it was fun to use untill the novelty wore out after paying for all the 6x4 processing and prints.

Great work Andrew. The best I have read in days. Reminds me of my Zenit days. Speaking of Russian, (or should I say rushing?) its a bit like the Berlin wall has come down and everyone is running over...just because they can. When they get there it all looks pretty much the same but the trip was a rush.
Does the Holga come in silver?

That must be cause I have Canon bodies to trade in, not Nikon bodies!

I could hook you up, but I believe that sort of thing is frowned upon here at work.
