Nikon Australia - new release D3H

Postby Glen on Sat Apr 01, 2006 8:37 am

http://www.nikonaustralia.com/p-d3h.php

Following on from Gary's post about the 18-200 software issues, I noticed a link to the D3H (above). Seems like a D2H with 12.4mp.

Copy from site:

The professional digital SLR for action and sports, featuring ultra-high speed, hig image quality and maximum efficiency.

The Nikon D3H is a professional digital SLR camera that delivers high speed, high precision, and improved handling for action photography.

Capable of shooting at 10 fps for a continuous burst of up to 80 images at 12.4 effective megapixels, the D3H incorporates an impressive array of exclusive features to deliver the speed, response, resolution and handling demanded by photojournalism and sports photography.

The D3H also adopts a combination of image-processing technologies and 3D-Colour Matrix Metering III improved with new algorithms initially developed for the D2X, making it possible to capture beautiful images that will fulfil photographers' needs for action photos with rich detail, colour and smooth tone range. The enhanced accuracy of digital processing in the ASIC provides smoother shading in gradual colour changes, important for subjects, like a blue sky with very subtle tone changes within the blue range. The D3H supports the sYCC colour profile found in many of the latest printers. This means that the wider range of colours can be reproduced for printing JPEG data than the conventional sRGB colour profile.

Class-leading performance features inherited from its predecessor, the D2H, include instant start-up, an almost imperceptible shutter time lag of just 24ms, and an improved implementation of the 11-area autofocus system, all of which enable the user to concentrate on shooting without being distracted by the time-consuming process of obtaining the most suitable settings for the best possible result.

Improvements to the large 2.5-inch LCD monitor include higher resolution of 268,000 pixels and clear, flicker-free display of images and information. The Histogram display is improved, while the new selectable RGB Histogram displays not only make colour channel-specific exposure confirmation quick, easy and accurate but allow you to make quick and easy adjustments of the levels on the fly.

As part of Nikon's Total Imaging System, the D3H is compatible with Nikon's growing family of digital-exclusive DX Nikkor lenses as well as the lineup of high-quality Nikkor AF lenses. When used with the new SB-880 or SB-800 & SB-600 Speedlights, the D3H maximises the potential of Nikon's Creative Lighting System with high-precision flash performance, including i-TTL & i-TTL2 flash control and support for Nikon's Advanced Wireless Lighting system.

The design of the camera's ergonomic styling is adopted from one created by famed industrial designer Giorgetto GIUGIARO* exclusively for a new generation of Nikon camera.

The Nikon D3H has a Recommended Retail Price (RRP) of $6199 Australian dollars.

Note: DX Nikkor lenses are fully compatible with the Nikon D3H, D2H, D2Hs, D2X, D200 D1X, D1H, D1, D100, D70s, D70 and D50 cameras. Nikon does not recommend use of DX Nikkors with 135 (35mm) or IX240 [APS] format cameras. Specifications, design, product name and standard accessories may differ by country or area, and are subject to change by the manufacturer without notice or obligation. Those listed on these pages are applicable to Australia. Products and brand names are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective companies.

wow, quite the camera. A lot of Nikon pros will be convinced, might even win back some that defected and never truly loved the Canon Feel.

Sweet. :) :) :) I can feel an upgrade coming on........

WOW 10-FPS at 12.4 MP for 80 shots in NEF and 110 shots in JPEG. Now that's some serious data moving. And i thought 8-FPS was nice.

Also how about this '25-iso' :)

Still using the Nikon JFET CMOS.

I guess i will have to start saving now, and by the time they are available (in 12 months), i will have enough money :)

Yeah but will this lower the retail cost of the D2X?

That's actually a very good question. The featureset is something like ... well, remember the comparisons between the D100 and D70 features, and how the D70, a cheaper camera, was seen to be mostly an upgrade? This seems to be much the same sort of thing.

It's a measure of the lack of intelligent thought processes of some of the people on DPR that they failed to do similar.

I'm sure those who want it badly enough can just phone you at home since the whois record is still perfectly public to those with the requisite thought processes to just look it up. Let's hope they consider the time difference. :p

Actually, it doesn't have the same specs.

I've added quite a few things.

It's faster, supports SD and CF, and has ominor level adjustments included with it, as well as iTTL2 support and a few other nick-nacks notifying people of the upcoming SB-880 flash.

Why not read through the actual sheet before you say it "has the exact same specs as the D2X".
