New Lightsphere II ID system...

Postby jdear on Sun Apr 02, 2006 7:16 pm

Gary is busy again, releasing an 'inverted dome lid' for the lightsphere PJ... looks not unlike a modern contraceptive method...

http://store.garyfonginc.com/liiido.html

and you can buy it from qualitycamera.com.au for $20.
His website has a free lighting instructional DVD on how to use the LS system... Ive contacted Qualitycamera.com.au to see if they will supply this promo also.

Old news hey :)
Could you provide an example of with / without the ID fitted to the PJ? Im wondering if its worth its $20 price...

Might be cheaper to go to the chemist and buy a diaphram... :P

jdear, in my option its not worth it. Get more skin tone and natural appearance with the LS pointed at the ceiling. Direct LS with dome is better than no LS and direct flash. But no where near the LS bounce on ceiling.

If you want I can do some quick test shots for you.

I agree with nito. I did a comparison with someone's dome in a fill-flash situation (was it yours nito?) at a minimeet a while ago, comparing direct flash, direct + PS2PJ + dome, and bounce directly up + LS2PJ. The latter was the best.

Could have been mine.

I find that in most cases, LSPJ pointed straight up gives the best results, as the other guys have mentioned.

However, if you're outdoors, or the ceiling is just too damn far to bounce off, that's where the dome comes into its own IMO.

J,

I've just come back from trialling the LightsphereII and the inverted dome and the results are fantastic. The $20 for the dome is well worth the money and there are many ways which you can use it, depending on the situation.

Just got off the phone 1o minutes ago and ordered both!

Cheers

The whole shebang consists of the LS PJ and the inverted dome. the dome is the cheaper bit :)

My fiancée calls it The Cricket Box. Even though you'd require the most deformed crotch in the world. She just likes the comedy value (but agrees that yes, it does look more like a diaphragm).

Seems like some confusion re. the lightsphere and dome, so here is a brief explanation.

Lightshere II - known as 'beercup' and made of a soft plastic. Fits over flash unit. Price : $69.95

Inverted dome : this fits onto the lightsphere II and is the bit they are calling the 'diagphram'. Price : $20

If you but both, shipping is $8.50 and is overnight via Australian Air Express

Available from Stu Simmonds at Quality Camera Sales Australia

http://www.qualitycamera.com.au

Mine is in the air as we speak....

Cheers

So let me get this straight as well

The thing the guy was using in the video is the whole shebang or just the diaphram?

Michael,

I haven't seen the video but you can't use the inverted dome (i.e. diagphram) without the lightsphere. Dome is a separate attachment that fits into lightsphere

Hope this helps

Cheers
