New firmware

So, you get a camera from them that's very new stock, and has B 1.03. Something goes wrong with it, and because of their ignorance, you will be denied service?

When are they going to get their act together? Not only do they overcharge, but they significantly under service. as well.

C'Mon Maxwells, start acting like a professional importer of high quality photographic equipment, rather than a bunch of backyard yobbos with not a clue about the products you're supposed to be experts in.

With all due respect I think you are leaping to conclusions here. The original poster got his pre-release 1.03 firmware in England. I'm not defending Maxwell's, I have no reason to view them in either a positive or negative way, but shouldn't they commit a crime before being sentenced?

I respect what you're saying, but my reading of this thread is that CC recieved a replacement camera with the new firmware installed, and if you look on DP review, at least one other person says they have the new firmware.

I don't think I've seen any mention that it was "pre-release", as in beta. I doubt that Nikon would do that. It just seems to me that he has recieved very fresh stock. That is a good thing, I believe.

Further, CC has recieved confirmation from Nikon (EU, I'd presume) that there is a new release, and that they expect it to be published (for the likes of us) later this week.

If Nikon EU can find out about this - and in fact confirm it - why is it that Maxwell's remain in the dark? And this is not the first time that they've not known about new releases - bo9th hardware as well as soft- or firmware.

The D2x details were released by Nikon prior to Photokina, yet some three weeks later, Maxwells were still saying they had no knowledge nor confirmation of it. This, despite the fact that their senior management were at Photokina.

I'm quite happy to acknowledge that they're doing a good job when and if they deserve it, but in all honesty, they've not been doing a crash-hot job of it lately.

The new batch seems to be coming out of England so Maxwell doesn't have any worry of cameras coming back to them under warranty, but refusing to fix a camera altogether shows how bloody minded they are.
I think the lowest ranked person in their service dept. could ring Nikon H/O and get some answers.

Remember Maxwell or we did not have any new firmware yet, or we won't never get it cos it's for difference region, country etc... that why they were pre-caution in providing any assurance prior to its official released.

Maxwell refuse to repair all the DSLRs not distribute from Maxwell or import thru another channel as warranty statement from their website few months ago, same as Nikon US or Nikon Europe. As said long ago, Maxwell is happy to fix the Grey import stuff with a premium, not their Nikon USA counterpart.

To provide warranty for the new camera with new firmware 1.03 installed might go back the old day as Nikon N90 for North America and Nikon F90 for Australia- Asia Pacific. I doubt about it and we have to wait to see what new firmware for, and will fix what bug in the D70 or giving more benefits, and is it applied to Australia/ Asia Pacific or not?

This is my experiences, time to time, I might have something came across with firmware for BIOS or firmware, software to use with some other devices and it stated clearly, it's only for Europe or North America, we didn't have here in Australia and manufacturer (HP/IBM/Compaq, Epson, Lexmark) won't provide any support for end user in Australia, who installed or needed support from them.
So please relax and wait to see what's going on in the next few days/ weeks, if the new firmware is not so important for the fixes, do we required to upgrade?

Birddogs probably right, the whole thing is probably nothing more than a storm in a teacup I wouldn't be suprised if the whole upgrade fixes nothing more than a spelling error in the menu and a "nicer" shade of blue in the GUI.

I wont be holding my breath for ISO100, manual control of the IR timeout and the ability to leave the D70 on the kitchen bench so that it can make me a cup of coffee in the morning
