PotW 11 April 06This week's picture of the week is an image that grabbed me the moment I saw it. It's by Matt K and is one of a series of great images from his outing to Bare Island, but was definitely the standout shot for me. It's a shot of something many people would just glance at, yet Matt has produced a great image from it.
Here's part of what I said in the original post which pretty much sums up my views on this superlative image: This image shows a fine eye for composition and a keen eye for extracting every nuanced detail from a scene. There is so much lovely detail there to explore yet the placement of the Cannon anchors both the scene and the eye. Congratulations Matt. I wish each and every one of you a safe and enjoyable Easter break. May you return refreshed and with a wonderful array of images to share with your fellow forum members. And keep clear of the chocolate Last edited by stubbsy on Tue Apr 11, 2006 10:18 am, edited 4 times in total.

As Stubby has already said...what a great eye...well spotted, great composition and light. Congrats Matt.
I missed this too, great work Stubbsy, inspired selection.
Matt, that is one powerful shot, really something. Congratulations on a very well deserved PotW. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Well done Matt - a very different image, one I missed originally as well. Good choice Peter.

I also missed it first time around - sorry Matt, as I always open anything that you have taken.
Very unusual shot because of the subject matter, but rich with detail and lovely warm tones. Great image. Well selected, Mr Stubbs. TFF (Trevor)

Showing off my geek heritage - this looks a lot like the perspective and colour of Doom. The cannon will do as the weapon, and perhaps rolling down an abandoned mine shaft in a little rail cart (not from the game, but the way the imagination lets this work).
Thanks for the memories MattK. HB
Like Trevor I missed this one first time around, but it is certainly a deserving winner Matt.

Nice one Matt... How to make something out of nothing... (as usual)
Pity that the cannon was slightly off centre, but that's hardly your fault... We nearly came down to La Perouse on Sunday (and would have if we'd known that the festivities were happening), but settled for Coogee instead... Great POTW Cheers, John

Hi Matt,
I just wanted to add my congratulations to all the others. A great photo, and as already mentioned, of something most of us would just glance at. Looking forward to seeing everyone's efforts over easter - can't promise to stay away from the chocolate though Stubbsy. Suzanne Canon EOS 350D Tamron 18-200mm
Just what do you think you're doing Dave?
Great shot Matt, agree with Heath that this bares a striking resemblance to some of the textures found in FPS games such as Doom, Q3, Unreal etc
My only gripe is that I would of liked to have more of the bottom of the cannon as it looks cut off? Darryl (aka Kipper)
