No shock. I know a couple of people that do that sort of thing to deceive (as in lie to) others. It is a sad state of affairs that people are so superficial.

It is the sort of behaviour that I cannot condone... and I never thought that I would see it supported here.

Holy cow . The guy asks a simple question and gets brow beaten . Good luck Wendell . I saw the logic in your original post and while in utopia all security/door bitches and pr people know everyones credentials and resumes off the top of there head in reality a hell of a lot of people make a judgement about being pro from the amount and size of the bling on display. If something this simple means the difference between getting the better position then go for it .

I wouldn't call looking as professional as you can fraud, if it means looking professional in the eyes of a client or their representatives then what is the problem. The client is content in their belief that you MUST be a pro because of the gear you carry, and you are able to show them your capabilities because the gear your carrying gets you a better position.

I can't believe how many people have got worked up over this.

When you go for a job interview, do you attempt to look your best, or do you go with a pair of jeans and a blue singlet on. Unless your going to be a shearer, you make yourself look as good as you can to impress people. Sure you have to have the knowledge to get the job, but appearences can be the determining factor. That is no surprise to anyone here surely?

How would we feel if our $1500 an hour QC tuned up in court with out his wig it’s all comes down to perception. Dose a wedding photographer with a very expensive red sports car take better photos than a photographer in a (sorry) Volvo maybe not but his red sports car studios ect has couples lining up for weeks to part with $10000+ .

Wendell, there nothing personal here. I am just expressing an opinion, right or wrong, it is *my* opinion. At the end of the day it is your work that counts, which is excellent btw, and how you get there is up to you. The dead camera thing is just something that I would never do.

About time I put my 2c worth here.
First of all, I don't think this has anything to do with fraud, unless you take 2 dead bodies and only pretend to take photos just so that you can get into the venue.
Second, I think it is probably a matter of affordabilty. I'm sure I would only do this if I could not afford a second body.
As others have said, you do what you have to do.

I was shooting a Maori wedding once, where the average male was built like a tank and walked around holding a beer jug by the tip of his fingers. By the middle of the night after quite a few beers they were continuously asking me to take their photo. I was using a bronica and didn't want to waste a lot of 220 film but I wasn't game enough to refuse so I flicked the switch to double exposure and kept shooting on the same frame over and over again. Not very professional but got me out of trouble.

So Wendell, go ahead and do what you need to do.

Sorry if it's a bit of a shock.

Its all about perception. You rock up to a F1 GP with a SLR camera and a bag full of gear you must be a pro. A dude with a P&S is let through and not hassled. Same thing at concerts. People make decisions based on the gear you have (or have not).

At the end of the day if it gets him in why not have the extra body hanging of his neck.

Noticed my name and Volvo being mentioned here earlier. Have to say that on any cost/benefit analysis my Volvo's have given good value for money. (have had 4 240's and one 240GL has over 600,000km and my eldest son is still driving it) and all because of excellent engineering Very similar to the reason that I chose Nikon as my camera of choice BTW. My current 960 has also given me excellent service but it was chosen to meet a need (200km per day on 110kmh speed limit) would not be economical in town. It has done nearly 50K in the last year gets 10.5lp 100km (straight 6 RWD 24valve 3 litre) and has not cost me anything other than normal servicing charges. It is extremely comfortable and safe and was cheap to buy although over $80K new (I love the image of Volvo drivers for just this reason in the 2nd Hand Mkt) Why do you think most interstate trucks are the same marque? All I need now is a fake Nikon body for the rear parcel shelf a la Wendell but I will keep the real one up front close to photo opportunities as they arise. Hope you get the body Wendell but, you know if you drove up in a Volvo they would probably let you straight in,
