Good buys for a D70s?

Newer members often state that they think their question is too basic, or stupid, or whatever, to be posted. Nothing could be further further from the truth in any section at DSLRUsers.com, but especially here. Don't feel intimidated. The only stupid question is the one that remains unasked. Good buys for a D70s?

Postby optogamut on Sun Apr 23, 2006 12:46 pm

Hi all,

I've only just joined after hearing of this site on the Appletalk forums. I'm looking around for the best place to get a D70s (after reading here a bit, I'd have to wait a while for birddog to be an option).

So anybody like to recommend places with good prices? Might there be good prices to be had at Photo Imaging World in Sydney?

I'm looking forward to having a DSLR and getting back into some more serious photography.

Cheers,
Danny.

Welcome Danny. With the advent of the D200 the D70s should be available at very competetive prices. Just check the Net or let your fingers do the walking

Don't expect it.

When are you going to PIW?

We're having an outing and minimeet there on Saturday, followed by dindins in Chinatown.

have a look here.

And when you've become known around here, you can always avail yourself of our bargain basement. :)

Thanks for the welcome. Not sure which day I'll be at the show yet (usually depends on my motivation on the day).

I just figured I'd see if anyone had done the legwork recently and found a good deal anywhere. If you don't mind me asking, how much cheaper is it through birddog? Worth waiting? I've thought about picking up the body and maybe getting another lens later, as I could use the one off my F80 for now.

I'll decide after I've checked out the show I guess, plus I've still gotta sell my old Coolpix 5700 and Fisheye...

My Mum recently bought me a D70s with kit lens for $1780 from Georges in Sydney. She sorta 'knows' the guy from having bought her Canon and a tripod there previously, so perhpas this influenced the good deal, but it might be worth going in there anyway. This was around a month ago.

Sorry Macka, but the only thing Georges is generally regarded as being good for is comedy relief. Their staff know less about photography than I do about brain surgery, or Lord Downer does about ... pretty much anything.

Your mum did well; I'd count that as good luck rather than good management though.

thanks. I've PM'd him (wouldn't let me reply as I'm not special enough yet) might be a good start and leave more money for another lens at some point.

is anyone willing to fess up as to what savings you get through birddog? maybe I'll hold back on something for a while...

Kris' kit is an absolute bargain, snap it up if you can get it! It's worth that even without the 50/1.4.

Yeah, I'm warming up to the idea of secondhand. Hopefully I'll here from him soon. He's probably busy at work or something silly like that and doesn't even know I'm waiting for a reply.

What Trent said.

Birddog's bargains are certainly worth looking at, but a second hand unit, especially a low mileage one like Kris's, will be hard to beat.

But for details of the sort of prices that are available, please review our bargains section.

The reason that you couldn't respond to the message posting, btw, is because you're a new member here; this is by design. :)

Please review our FAQ, and pay special note to the sections regarding "special access" and all will become clear. That stuff applies to the bargains, For Sales .... anything that's listed under "members" on the front page, actually.

Thanks.

Yeah, I figured all that out, not being able to reply caught me at first as I assumed it was just newbies couldn't create a new thread. Anyway as long as the PM went through I'm happy. I'll just have to get busy posting and get the count up! :D Of course, that'll be easier once I have a DSLR to post about.

I used http://www.shobot.com.au when searching for a D70s in September last year. It collated prices from websites around Australia an then you simply click thru to that website for more info/to buy.

Camera Farm and Camerastore had the best prices when I was looking.

Sorry, that should be http://www.shopbot.com.au

I've bought from camerastore.com before. They're prices aren't necessarily the cheapest (still good), but they will have your gear to you anywhere in the country within 24hours of ordering. Unbelieveable service!

Good luck in the hunt. I just picked up a D70s body from a member for $800, tis like new. So they are out there!

I picked up a Canon G3 off the guys at http://www.dirtcheapcameras.com.au/ a D70s 18 - 70 kit is currently listed at $1730

But when I picked up my D70 (quite some time ago now) I went grey market, and purchased it while I was in Singapore for a few days.

If you are looking second hand and do not want a warranty, then grey may be a good option ... buyer beware though :?

Well, still looking around, Kris flogged his D70 already to someone from another forum!!

Has anyone dealt with HKSupplies on ebay? They're the people birddog goes through right? Even B&H photo are looking reasonable. So many options....

Danny,

The search function might be your friend.

HKSupplies are as good as you get, and are active supporters here as well, with Poon being an active member and friend of many of our members.

Prices are great, and you'll be struggling to find better service.
