Canon E1 Hand Strap?

Postby Trieu on Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:05 pm

Hi fellow posters :) just a quick question...

Does anyone use the hand strap on their Canon? Your thoughts... good/bad?

Also does it fit the 350D?
Cheers,

According to BH, it'll only work with cameras that have the grip.
So, I imagine you'd be fine if you had the Canon grip for the 350.

Still, I'd probably prefer the Optech strap we have at DSLR Users since it works on pretty much every camera regardless of grip or not.

EDIT: Doesn't seem like it's a user friendly product for installation. It's a strap for Christ's sake. It shouldn't be hard to "install".

That said, it looks as though you need some sort of notch or hole on the bottom of the camera to be able to tie this under, similar to the phone straps that come with mobile phones that loop themselves. So if your body doesn't have that, you're hosed.

Thanks for that!

Yeah... your right.. the 350D doesn't have that notch to tie into at the bottom. I am assuming the 20D and 30D might have it.

Cheers for the site too, that is the most information I have found on the net.

The E1 is great, I love it!
The 1-series cameras have the appropriate loop on the bottom of the camera, but the 350D/20D/30D/etc don't. It's on the bottom of the matching battery grip, and that image on Flickr is a scan of part of the grip manual.

However if you don't want the BG-E3 grip, on the 350D you can use something like a Camdapter which is a plate that bolts to the camera base and provides the loop (and optionally also acts as an Arca-Swiss compatible QR plate).
I have one of these that I use with a variety of bodies (my model won't fit the 350D though: scroll down that page to find the 350D plates).
