new Better beamer for sb800/600 available

Postby avkomp on Fri May 05, 2006 10:53 am

I Just ordered a set of new arms for my better beamer flash extender.

For those who havent heard of these I wrote a review sometime ago here:

http://www.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?t=11579&highlight=beamer

Whilst this works well, you require some velcro shims in order to fit the unit to the sb-800/600

They have been planning on releasing a model which better fits the sb800/600
and I received my email today stating that they are in stock.

2 options are available. a new set of arms for those who previously bought a beamer or the complete new item consisting of arms and a lens.
arms only info:
https://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=179
full unit info:
https://www.naturescapes.net/store/product.php?productid=174

I figure that those interested would have probably have signed up for an auto emailing when in stock but this is just for those who didnt or perhaps those who havent even heard of the better beamer and were wondering how to get some extra range from the flash

I may update my review when I recieve it and post images showing before
and after.

Yep - thanks Steve. I got the email this morning as well and ordered them straight away, in case they get a rush on them and run out of stock.

Like Steve, I expect mine tomorrow. Does it live up to expectations Foz?
(i.e. does it actually fit?!)

bummer, I still dont have mine simon. tomorrow??

borrowed a tripod today to give my wimberley a run. smooth as. only managed a few shots before I had to retreat due to rain.
posted a shot
http://www.dslrusers.net/viewtopic.php?t=17192&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0
the rig produces tack sharp shots with both axes unlocked. zero play. wonderful.
keen to complete the rig with a beamer that fits.

Also may be going birding saturday morning with a prime 600 f4.
what a weapon that is gave it a quick run tonight weighs around 10kg.

need the new beamer arms tomorrow though so I can calibrate the rig for saturday.

Manta - I have just fitted the new arms and it is rock solid on the SB-800. The flanges that wrap around the head of the SB-800 are twice as deep. It is most important to slightly raise the head of the SB-800 and set the inside flange brackets slightly passed the head, and then secure with the velco strap. Then lower the head so the velco strap comes in contact with the other velco strip mounted on top of the main body. Hope this instruction is clear to everybody.

Edit: The new arms have only one velco pad on the outside. So I have removed one pad from the other set of arms and fitted and it is even more secure.

To save shipping cost, members who's interested may organize a group buy of this little toy.

birddog114 - may be:

1. AF-S VR Nikkor 300mm f/2.8G IF-ED or

2. AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4D IF-ED II or

3. AF-S Nikkor 600mm f/4D IF-ED II

Then go birding for both varieties :)

Andre,
Start a new thread and bulk order if you can please. But don't get so many coz the shipping & GST will be incurred.
I want one, thanks first.
