G'dayG'day guys and gals. I just bought my D70 a week ago and thought I'd join this insightful little community. I've shot around 700 shots already, mainly just experimenting and learning the camera. Like everyone I really want to get the most out of this cam.
I got the kit lens + a 70 - 300 tamron which I find to be not so sharp, but occasionally it's alright. I got a pelican last night and found some horendous purple fringing on it, but perhaps I was a bit out of focus or something because others turned out not so bad. Anyway, just so you know I'll be around and any help would be appreciated. Kind regards, Owen.

Welcome Owen! Thanks for your first post, and welcome to the forum.
If you have a look around, you'll find a coupla posts on the old purple-fringing. Hope we can see some pix from you soon.
Ah thanks guys,
I'll post a couple of pics here just to start with, they're of my beautiful wifey who let me buy the camera. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/ ... bunny2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/ ... bunny1.jpg These were the first shots I took with the camera and have since discovered the use of a custom curve, and apart from a level adjustment needed I think they turned out alright. What do you guys think? Many thanks, Owen.
Welcome Owen to the friendliest D70 forum in the universe - bit over the top but you will soon find out what I mean.
If you get iNovas ebook on the D70 you will also get a lot of actions that can remove CA in PS Chris Chris

Owen your pics of your lovely wife are great but lack a little punch or contrast. What PP program are you using?

Welcome Owen.
I too am a new member 2 weeks now, and have found this fourm to friendly and very helpful. When asking a question there is always a number of answers, some with different opinions but that helps answer the question rather than confusing the issue. I hope that you find the fourm as helpful as i have. Everything is possible, the impossible just takes longer
Hi there. Yep, the only thing I did with these before posting them on the web was a resize, but I have since done a levels adjustment in photoshop 7 and that brings them more to life. I didn't realise how dull they were until I printed one out (at work shhh...) and that then prompted me to adjust it a little bit. Thanks for pointing that out though
G'day Owen,
Welcome to the forum It's always surprising when first getting into digital photogrpahy, just how much difference some PP makes huh... And it's good fun too! There's heaps of very knowledgeable people here on all aspects of digital photo stuff, so post heaps and ask heaps... I do and have learnt a lot... The purple fringing you mentioned might be from a bright light source (like the sun) peeking around sharp edges of something fairly dark (like tree branches, building edges etc), but most of the photo manipulation packages can cater for that too... Also, get in some significant crawling with your partner now, that way you can redeem the "good points" when you start craving all the other toys Cheers, Mudder Aka Andrew
Don't be alarmed owen, I'm sure onyx is referring to you and not your lovely wife when he refers to fresh meat. Hmm, maybe that's more alarming.
Anyhoo, I have the Tamron 70-300 too, it is very good value, and you can experiment with macro. Welcome to the forum. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Hi Owen
I'm only new here as well, but the natives seem friendly! I have the tamron 70-300 and shot with it today for the first time (yep, a bit slow). It did OK, except for the fact that I have no chance with my girly arms of holding it steady enough to shoot at the 300mm end. 700 shots already, you have shamed me....I have been lucky to shoot 100 and I got it Christmas day....
Greg, I had completely skipped over those pic links. Owen - I recognise those pics, you're from OCAU! We've had a number of new members also from OCAUers recently. Well, I'm guilty of coveting thy neighbour's wife. She really is a looker.
Hey guys, thanks for the friendly welcome! Some of you seem a little TOO friendly though (Onyx!!!) lol.
Not to worry mate, I got some more shots of her this arvo when she wasn't aware of it, not sure if I should post them though I might get in trouble. There are a lot of people buying D70's and especially at my old hangout the Fuji Talk Forum on dpreview, they're all abandoning ship. I just went out and took some shots of the local bridge... forgot to take my cheap UV filter and I think it is the cause of some massive lens flare. It's pretty much in every shot unfortunately. I'll have to go out and try it without the filter on. (I also forgot to do some white balancing so everything is very yellow.) Can I direct you all to: http://forum.d70users.com/viewtopic.php?p=20332#20332 Hope you're all having a good night!
I thought I'd use my real name just in case I ever go to one of the meets... I would feel a bit uncomfortable introducing myself as smakkythecamel. Anyway, it seems to be getting past my bed time. Night night.
MJ’s right there You can be shore of a long running thread if you post an image of a duck. & if the image is well composed just ads to the discussion Seagulls are a close second!! Cheers Ray >> All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism<<
