I paid for mine so long ago I can't remember... what, about 3 months? Occasionally I phone Maxwell and ask them how the supply is going, or whether they have heard when they will be getting them. The usual answer is We received a very small shipment, much less than we were expecting, but are hoping another shipment will be coming in soon... The last time I called them was last week, they were expecting another shipment "probably more than a week but less than a month..." You really think Nikon could do better. It tells me one of two things - (a) They have had so many technical problems with it that have been difficult to iron out, (b) there has been such a global demand that we really are so far down the list they can't even see us yet. I hope it's (b) - I am, or have been, patient. But a lot has been happening around me that has presented many excellent photographic opportunities, that I am missing out on to an extent - the D70 is now firmly in the hands of my wife and the Olympus P&S C770 just doesn't cut it. It's autumn in Tasmania. If you've been to Tassie in autumn, you would know what that means... especially if you've done any bushwalking and seen the fagus in full autumn glory. A late thought - (c) = (a) + (b) - heaven forbid! C'mon Nikon!! EDIT - Oh crap... I don't need the D200 any more Check this link. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

I was helping someone try to purchase a D200. It is impossible all out of stock! There are big waiting lists for the camera and well the people in the shops are disappointed that maxwell is struggling with demands.
We are not going anywhere near! the rant are still on! Not Maxwell! and Maxwell has nothing to do with this drama. Talk to Nikon Japan, or switch to Canon 30D or 5D ia an alternative. Birddog114

Swapping to Canon - maybe not. Waiting for the (hopefully soon to be released) 35mm sensor in a Nikon DSLR and getting one of those instead? Now that could happen... But if I get the D200 and then the 35mm sensor comes along, I know I won't be getting one - the D200 is going to be IT for me for a long time. I do not want a divorce Birdy are you privvy to any info as to why they are taking so long? I once spent more than an hour looking for someone in Nikon Japan to email but came up with nothing. Seems talking to them is not easy, they hide behind their dealers quite well. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Nah! useless! you won't find one. Fly to Japan and you'll have a good opportunity face to face. Birddog114

So it's still the same old,
Sorting out the banding, Battery life issues, and mostly a huge world demand so we're on the back blocks of nowhere... Bugger Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Look on the bright side, the countries getting D200 stock are probably getting all the cameras with problems, by the time they start arriving in Oz they *might* be free of banding, battery etc problems.
I'm at the stage of seriously thinking about buying one, but lack of supply in Oz is good for my credit card balance However, theres always those good ebay deals lurking at the back of my mind... Gordon D70, D200, CP5700

I've seen that in the US people are starting to (again) take delivery of D200s, which suggests that the camera is back in production with the issues resolved, and that, as always, the Maxwell Backwater is in it's usual place.

On the subject of the D200, can anyone who has one tell me if they suffer from the large pink glow in the top left hand corner for the frame like the D70 does?
NR frames may be all well and good if you are in no hurry and dont mind waiting twice the exposure to take your next pic, but when trying to make animations of storms for example, it just does not work. Fortunatly sometimes the D70 doesnt suffer the pink glow and all is good, but its a bit random, so I never know if my shots will be wasted. Gordon D70, D200, CP5700
Gordon,
IIRC, this is due to the D70's sensor heating up, which is one reason that the D70 isn't really the best tool for making images where a long exposure is needed. I don't know if the D200 suffers the same issues, but given that both are Sony sensors, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see this as a common issue. g.

I'm not entirely convinced thats all there is to it, since I have taken a photo immediately after turning the camera on and had the pink glow. Then taken more photos, when you would presume the sensor would heat up more, and had no pink glow.
Thats why I'm hoping someone with one can tell me, before I spend/waste any money on one! Gordon D70, D200, CP5700
Gordon, That's amp noise from the electronics inside the D70 heating up the sensor on really long exposures (I've never experienced it myself, as my longest exposures have all been less than 5 minutes) without long expsoure NR on. I've read that the D200 will have the amp noise all around the edge of the frame and not just in one corner like the D70. Using long exposure NR gets rid of it. Another option if you don't want to use long exposure NR you can do is use the D200's built-in intervalometer and take a number of automated 30 sec exposures seperated by 1 sec each, and then combine them all into one exposure using PS.
Today, Maxwell said they are expecting another shipment this month, and that they should receive stock to fill all back-orders by late June or (hastily changing her mind) July.
They also just received another "small" shipment. No numbers of course. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Tasadam, Hope this time they told you the truth as they mentioned same thing to many people at recently PIW but none of us (resellers) seen any sign of the delivery. I hate this very much with many of the backorders which I put into their hand and always they told the end users difference story. I wish that I didn't engage this at the beginning Birddog114

If i had of waited for maxwells/nikon/someone to do something I would have gone insane.
So I took aquiring a D200 into my own hands and have never been happier, well except for when I was happily paired with a girl but this ia a different kind of happy I guess. Are we there yet?
Michael, You have done the right thing but it based on your decision, and you're more than happier with it when you want it instantly. Birddog114

My wife returned from Detroit with a surprise brand spanking new D200 (she never liked that I had to share the D70 with my dad's company). And wowza soooeyy! It's something else. I started going through the menus last night and about 20 orgasms later I finally finished; this thing is capable! Did a couple of test shots with no card in it and couldn't believe how perfectly accurate the auto white balance was. I was also impressed by the sound, not a flippety like the d70, but more of a 'clink'.
I recently started to shoot some skaters, and the 5 frames per second is going to come in real handy for that. I'm honestly beside myself. The screen on the back, with the zooming, the smoothness at iso 100. It's the greatest the auto white balance, the menu options, the orgasms etc.
dooda, Congrats! Your post will bring more trouble & stress for me at Down Under. May I have your wife's phone number? and will ask her to take it off from your hand Birddog114

I've certainly gained a few pounds, and come to think of it I'm a little moodier then usual but I just thought that was due to my breast pains.
AHAHAHAHA oh that made me chuckle out loud! Are we there yet?
HAHAHA. Make sure you read the fine print though - might say only 99% effective. If it does, by the law of averages, never use it 100 times... 99 is fine... HB
Digital City still has a deal on the D200 if any1 interested. Would be aussie stock:

I did a ring around myself today for Sydney CBD retailers, and got the same message - no stock. Some tried to get a deposit off me and assured me it would only be weeks off...
*cough* bullshit *cough* A call to maxwell told me different. - End of July odd if not already pre-ordered. AHH!! [start rant] I finally get enough $$ together for a DSLR and its not available The 30d is looking like my next preference. (my SB800 and 50mm f1.8 will make it for sale on here if so) [/end rant] Canon must be doing well out of it, the sales guys are telling me people are buying 30d's instead. J
Just do it It is a great cam for the price.
The less you have the easier it is to count Peter, what are you worried about ?
