for those in the Hunter region: The Hunter Region Botanic Gardens are only a short drive from Newcastle close to Hexham on the way to Raymond Terrace. I've been thinking of visiting the place for a while. It covers 140 hectares, lots of gardens, native wildlife (wallabies, koalas, etc), native birds and obviously, plants/flowers galore. They are open 7 days a week 9-4. Entry is by gold coin donation. It would be nice to go in the morning to explore the place. They have a little cafe, so we can finish with a coffee or lunch depending how long we stay there. http://www.huntergardens.org.au/ For me, it would either have to be this coming weekend, the last two weekends of June, first two weekends of July. Just reply to this thread if interested. André (they also have night walks during the week for those wanting to see nighhtime critters) EDIT: this is not the Hunter Valley Gardens that some members have been too in the past and now put the date in subject EDIT: change the date to July 9th Last edited by radar on Thu Jun 22, 2006 11:25 am, edited 3 times in total.

I'm right with any of the dates you suggest. While this weekend suits me, maybe it's a bit short notice for others. Peter

Re: EOI - Hunter Region Botanic Gardens
I thought it cost more than that unless you're a Novacastrian.
Re: EOI - Hunter Region Botanic Gardens
Note that the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens should not be confused with the Hunter Valley Gardens in the vineyards, two different places. See the link at the start. Sorry if there was any confusion Cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Ansel Adams

As I understand it the botanic gardens are a very different style of gardens to the ones in the vineyard. Less showy, more traditional and in some ways more interesting.

Trieu, Due to weight restrictions the moon trip is no go. I am not sure whether you know this, but a few of the member's are involved in a strange cult with an initiation that involves alot of pain and embarrasement. It is very similar to Sciencetology but you would not admit to belonging to this cult. Having said that, I am sure you are quite welcome to come along to the Hunter Region Botanic Gardens trip that Andre has organised. Just make sure that you bring a band-aid to cover the "Canon" logo on your pentaprism.
Dont know what's there but typically, Botanic Gardens are at their best in spring and warmer months rather than autumn/winter.
Is this the case in Newcastle?. Better spot at this time of year is the Auburn Botanic Gardens which features many deciduous trees in a Japanese garden setting (japanese maples etc) and therefore lots of colour. Ray
Ray,
really just an excuse to get out of the house with a camera and friends It is meant to be a nice area, should still be plenty to take photos of, if not plants, there should be some types of wildlife. Worse comes to worse, we'll have to take photos of us taking photos Some of the wattles, banksias should be nice at this time. Depending on what we find, we may decide to go back in Spring when some more of the wildflowers are in bloom. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Radar, Exactly what my thoughts are as Ray mentioned, I prefer Spring or summer to visit the garden, but then there's your choice and an excuse to stay away from..... few hours. Birddog114

Still on 28.8k internet at my place in Newcastle. That makes it 3 months since I applied for ADSL and still nothing! It really is impossible to browse the net on internet this slow - frequent disconnects too.
Been a bit busy and slack otherwise. - Nick

Hi,
just wanted to wake up this thread again to confirm that I'm still planning to get to the Hunter Botanic Gardens on July 8th. It doesn't matter that it is winter, it should still be nice to get out and take photos. Info on the gardens can be found at: http://www.huntergardens.org.au/ If the weather is nice, I'll do a sunrise around Nobbys or Newcastle Baths and have a coffee/breakfast on Darby after that before heading to the Gardens for 9am. Sunrise is at 6:55am on July 8th, so I plan to be there around 6 to get the early light. Don't feel obligated to come for the sunrise, I just like to get up early Just confirm back on this thread if you are still interested in coming to the Gardens and/or the sunrise. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. NOTE: Date change to Sunday July 9, 9am
The Hunter Botanic Gardens meet will take place on the Sunday instead. I know that stubbsy is still interested, so if there are any others, let me know, It will give me a chance to attend the mini-meet in Sydney on the Saturday, since I won't be able to make the AW and it has been a while since I have been able to attend a mini-meet. cheers, André Photography, as a powerful medium of expression and communications, offers an infinite variety of perception, interpretation and execution. Radar, For Sunday the 9th, I don't think many Sydney members will get up there. Perhaps put it little bit later in Spring when we have nice weather with plenty of flowers on plants. Other than that, Just you and stubbsy for the day! Enjoy!!!!! Birddog114
