St Andrews

These pictures were taken of St Andrews in Sydney city. I took a whole bunch of shots, however these I thought were the only two that looked ok.

As for PP the blue door image I raised the saturation and contrast, and with the window shot I raised contrast and adjusted curves. They both were cropped to make line appear more straight.

Both shots taken with the Kit Lens.

Please let me know what you really think.

Terry, the door one is really striking, great colours, well done.

I like the door as well. Reds and Blues contrast really well together, however it does look like it's leaning to the left a bit. Perhaps a rotate slightly to the right would make it look straighter.

The second is a difficult shot to take due to the high contrast between the sky and the dark front of the building.

Everytime I walk past that building I take some shots and they always end up in my trash folder. It's one hard piece of architecture to photograph. Well done for something different.

Hi Terry i agree with the others colours in the 1st one is great if not for the sky, but i like the 2nd as well, maybe you could try changing it, make it look more dramatic maybe, but what do i know??

Terry i was looking at that pic and thought i would have a play with it. So here is what i would do to that pic if it was mine and that sky, so i redone that pic of yours, ok there is only so much you can do with what sky was showing but think this would be the better alternative to just binning the shot. Hope you dont mind.

Thanks for the responses - very helpful

I will try to allign the blue door picture more to the right - however im not sure if it will make the rest look bent, as the door itself is in perfect at a perfect right angle.

Also BBJ, thanks for that sky mod - I was actually trying to get a decent sky happening however unsuccefull - that 'perfect sky' mad eit look great - Is that plugin downloadable from somewhere?

Both nice shots in particular the blue door - the contrast between the stone and painted door is very striking.

2nd shot - sky - in PS select the sky with the magic wand. Open another shot that has lots of sky (ie. more than you want to fill on the first shot). Use the marque selector in the top left of tool bar and do a cmd c (Mac). Then go back to the cathedral shot and with the sky still selected go to Paste Into under the edit menu item.

This will paste the sky into your shot on another layer and can be moved around for the best effect.

Hi Terry, yes mate should be around on some of the site no doubt, ok i found it. This is one method of doing it and has been ok for me but Chris has also explained another way as well so maybe you can explore both way and then use what ever you feel is better for you, but yeh have a play .

okay, here is the cathedral with the new sky. I ended up using some clouds from a differet picture, raised the contrast to give it that scary feeling



And.. Blue door rotated 0.3 CW

Now you're cooking Terry, while you're at it why not crop that little dark area in the bottom left of the Door photo or maybe put your signature there.
