And for those that haven't visited the Nikon.com.au (maxwell) site lately:

D200 Supply Issues

Monday May 15, 2006

Maxwell Optical Industries would like to apologise for the delay in getting the award winning Nikon D200 and the AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED into the hands of our customers.

Unfortunately production has not kept up with unprecedented demand resulting in a Worldwide shortage on both of these products. This has caused a build up of backorders that we have been unable to fulfill. Supply should be improving over May, June and July according to the latest information from Nikon.

Maxwell would like to thank customers for their patience and reassure them that we will supply their D200 as quickly as possible.

For more information about these and other Nikon products please visit: http://www.nikon.com.au

Interesting that this "worldwide shortage" only seems to affect Australia's supply! Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, UK, USA - they all seem to have an abundance of the bloody things....don't those countries count as part of "the World"?!

Regardless of what you think "seems" to be the case, if you haunt the various forums you'll find they're not readily available.
Once you realise that like high fuel prices, everyone is in the same boat, it's not that bad having to wait.

Interesting note on the Nikon Oz site. That was one of the suggestions that I made to Maxwell's at PIW. Perhaps they listened?

As to the worldwide shortage ... the supply situation does seem to be improving, with places like Best Buy in the US actually seeimg to have some stock in their stores, as well as available for mail order fulfilment.

But that is just within the last week, so it is a gradual thing.

Would it be silly of me to think they've finally realised that we, as a group, actually have a bit of clout in this country?

Manta,
They already got "bogged down" few days ago with all the verbally abuse and those are " mass destruction" forces from all of the angered folks on this continents, so perhaps, that statement is a new strategy to cool people down a bit.

Some stock is trickling into Sydney.
I was contacted by 3 stores yesterday that I had pre orders with asking if I wanted a D200.
Too bad for them I bought one Grey Market 2 months ago!!!

Make sure they have stocks in hand or they just want to check if you're still interested, it's a trick of keeping their waiting list updated as I've been told by few people today with that game.

So has anybody got their D200 yet?
I've been staring at a few here in the UK

If I hadn't just purchased a PC and a 20inch Wide LCD I might of had the money for one. Oh well, the D70 is still working so no need to upgrade just yet.

I know but without one I'm not enjoying taking photos because I can't see what I've taken unless I go and develop everything I take.

Will do Chris, it's a bit wet at the moment, like the rest of England, and grey and did I mention windy?

But guess what, they're in a drought....lol!

They're considering introducing stand pipes like they did in the 70s. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a pipe in the street that is connected to the mains. I think from the stand pipe you're rationed an amount of water. I believe they also prevent you from using the water connected to your house or you're limited to a certain amount if you go over I guess you're fined.

Apparently the problem is that the dams are in short supply of water and the aqua-thingy-magigs (the underground bores) are very low on water. All the chalk that England is sitting on is drying out :(

Gerard,
Cool down little bit mon ami! put your rants back to your pocket please.

The D2x is not shortage but with the special offered prices, they were gone quicker than the wind thru the opened windows, if you were slow in just one day, you'll miss out the first shipment.

HKS is waiting for new batch of D2x delivered with the offered price.

With the normal prices as over 5K, you can have it next day.

Both sides (Myself + HKS) tried to do our best.

Birddog,
I know you do your best and do appreciate that. I would not have thought that these were different from the full price ones... I thought they might have run the stocks a bit too low with the new "improved" version coming up. Anyway that's good news and am going to have a good sleep before my second nightshift.
Thanks and see you soon,
Gerard PS: I'd like a wireless remote if you have stock.

I'm quite surprised that those prices remain on offer. They are exceptional prices for an exceptional camera, and my expectation was as Thanh suggests - gone with the wind!

Gerard,
Don't have your expectation too early! nothing in concrete about the new D.....as yet, and if it's: YES, then people don't have the opportunity to grab one before Xmas 2010

Yes, it's the special price, which Poon tried to get from his sources and limited offer, I don't think it'll last and having it more down the track.

The wireless remote is in stock + your L bracket, courtesy from our friendy "locker", Mr Stubbsy   Thanks Stubbsy once again.
I'll take care all.

Glamy, You are not alone, I hope that my D2x is in the same shipment as yours, Its not just Nikon, my Tokina 12 - 24 took 9 weeks to arrive :x
My travels over Easter were without it, when it did arrive, it was worth the wait  Going away this long w/end, but doubt if it will be with the D2x  I am sure once it does arrive all the angst will be forgotten!

ps downloading the owners manual is a poor substitute, but it sure keeps you occupied! 8)

I am still waiting for the D200. A friend of mine walked into a shop in Hobart yesterday and bought one off the shelf!
Hopefully it's a sign that they are starting to come in, but I do not understand how a shop in Hobart can get one when there are so many on back-order.
Good luck to him. Good luck to all those that can afford a D2x. I patiently and (mostly) silently wait.

Your D200 back to Maxwell for

The one I purchase in Dec is fine except for some hot pixels. The 2nd one I got in Jan/Feb has bad banding/hot pixel/ and internal vibration.
Maybe I over worked them

One is ready for pickup  The other one might take awhile

Don't you know that the internal vibration is the privileges and built in VR (bonus) of the early batches.

Hot pixel is quite easy to re-map. 5 minutes job.
The second one is no comment, perhaps a brand new PCB will be replaced as I 've seen and tested.

This thread has been split out of the D200 preorder list thread. For info SOLELY about D200 preorders you'd use the other thread.

This thread is for things such as gripes about availability of the D200, gloats you have one or hot tips on where to obtain one.

This thread is for things such as gripes about availability of the D200, gloats you have one or hot tips on where to obtain one.

Thanks Peter,

Rokkstar,
What's happening to Shutterbug should sway your decision towards the D2X. I know that beside the wait ( :violin: ...) this was always in the back of my mind. You wait for months and may get a dude :!: .
I got all worked-up and had to vent, I apologise, I should have slept on it (but then it's hard to sleep), I am a bit like a "souffle", I calm down as fast as I get upset. Looking at Nikon's record for the supply of their gear in the past few months, doubts creep in your mind and it all builds-up.
Cheers,
Gerard

Hopefully it's a sign that they are starting to come in, but I do not understand how a shop in Hobart can get one when there are so many on back-order.
Good luck to him. Good luck to all those that can afford a D2x. I patiently and (mostly) silently wait.

Adam, which shop, which shop
I feel a need to race into Hobart tomorrow/today.

Hi John

I answered your PM. Midcity Cameras. And they had another.
Be quick - that was yesterday!

Yes the D200 is available.
But you got to go grey.
See recent post here -

And where did it come from here -

Only tested for 2days, but have yet to discover any hot pixels or banding problems.

What happens if people don't want to go grey due to the existing issues and problems? and you may not but other may find something not right with their new toy.

These existing problems may not discover at the first few weeks, months.

Even the Jan/ Feb 06 shipment, the ratio of the number D200 returning is too high with me as I've seen and known: 10 -15%.

Indeed Birddog, and patience is a virtue.
Unfortunately a pressing overseas trip removed the option of caution for me.
The term I believe is :

"caveat emptor" - all buyers need to understand this term!!

12months return to base warranty, for repair to be completed in Australia, and for additonal cost I also purchased 3 more years of extended Mack International Warranty.
Cause things can go wrong!!

The people I feel sorry for are the legitimate retailers who are contractually reliant upon Maxwell for supply.
They deserve better service.
The Australian D200 supply issue doesn't just highlight that we are a backwater.
It merely confirms that in this global economy Hong Kong bangs the table louder than our current Australian Wholesale Representative.
Do you really think NIKON care which Wholesaler sells their gear so long as it is moving out the door?
I doubt it.

If Maxwells weren't the sole distributor for Nikon Australia the problem would be solved.
Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

Suri & Pirostich,

First, yes, buying from OS with extra warranty, it's a good ideal and help in the long term.
Everyone has difference thought and the way they want to get their toy.

Second, I bashed Maxwell all the way thru, but with this D200, it's NOT Maxwell's faults, nor Maxwell wants to play a hard game.

If you're running a businness, would you like to have more sales by obtaining more supplies or you just don't want to have your income or cash flow by not ordering your supplies.

Think about it again, it's global's issues and shortage due to many factors that I had put up here before few times.

HKG is a difference market, stocks from HKG do not come from Nikon HKG, they come from South America, Japan, US and other regions.
HKG has free market share and they can buy cheaper from many sources they found, no import tax, no GST, No duty and lot of stuff from HKG, recently I've found from US market or for US market.

Are there people here that aren't able to take a picture until they get their D200? If that's the case then I understand, but if it isn't the case, the D200 is fun, but it doesn't really make THAT big a difference. I mean the photo is still a photo with a D70 or whatever else you're using. Unless you're using a crappy phd.

Perhaps some of you sold your D70 to free up some money for the D200 or something?
