Out of Warranty D70 repairs at MaxwellJust interested...
If anyone has had to pay for out of warranty repairs, that is excluding physical damage (Wendellification factor), for the D70 when the camera is sent direct to Maxwell. At 6 months out of warranty I got faulty multiselector switch repaired at no cost. Am I lucky or is this the norm?
I thought you had your extended warranty with Maxwell as stated earlier

Extended warranty was with gold Visa credit card provider, not with Maxwell itself. The card insurer reimburses repair costs for an additional year over the warranty period. Usual situation is that you pay for the repair and then claim that from the card insurer. However I was never charged for the repair and the card insurer was not charged directly.
Now you told us about it. Refer to your post on the above thread:
You didn't mentioned the gold card is Visa Gold card. On the market, few Extended Warranty programs have its name as GOLD CARD EXTENDED WARRANTY also. But on another thread about the bonus extra warranty with your purchase, you mentioned you had one exclusively deal from one of the photographic retailer that you bought your D70 and it's offered by Maxwell. I got my D70 repaired 6 months out of warrantee free of charge, however had to go through several escalation points at Maxwells which appeared to be futile. A written letter of demand from Dept of Fair Trading seemed to change their minds... My arguement was based on product's 'Expected Life' as opposed to 12month Express Warrantee period.
Following this it was repaired for free after a $600 quote. Main power cct & 2 connectors. "You are talking about the nonsensical ravings of a lunatic mind"
Which is a rather salient point, one might think. Well done. g.

My D70 was repaired by Maxwells free of charge. It was a few months out of warranty.
I heard my repair was related to the BGLOD, so maybe that's why mine was done under warranty.
That is correct. Mine was seven months out of warranty but was fixed FoC because of a BGLOD issue. g.

Seven months? Even if your D70 is out of warranty more than 24 months, BGLOD is a free warranty repair. Birddog114

I'm a bit like GWB...sometimes I misunderstand myself Sorry about my sloppy phraseology. The only Maxwell warranty I got for the D70 is the standard 12 month warranty. Because I bought it with a Visa Gold credit card the card issuer reimburses me for the repair of manufactuer defects for a further 12 months. I wasn't aware that other extended warranty schemes bought over the counter were labelled "gold card". The only other item about which I may have mentioned warranty issues was the 70 - 200 mm VR lens which I got from discount digital photographics. In this case the warranty is provided by the retailer, not by Maxwell as it was grey market. Not sure whether I've unmuddled any muddles I've made but maybe I should learn not to make any muddles in the first place.
