70-200 VR using Active ModeI decided to test the Active* VR setting on my 70-200 VR by taking some photos of Brisbane from a moving CityCat.
In all the pix below, the CityCat was in motion - I don't know how fast they go at full speed, not being a boatie - but suffice to say you have to hang on when you are standing up! I think the resultant images are quite amazing in the circumstances. The biggest problem I had was keeping the horizon straight. This church sits high above the river and its Spanish architechture makes it stand out: 200mm, 1/2000sec @ f8 http://newms.smugmug.com/photos/14035077-M.jpg For those who haven't been here, we do have a cultural centre: 70mm, 1/400sec @ f9 http://newms.smugmug.com/photos/14035081-M.jpg City buildings: 70mm, 1/320sec @ f11 http://newms.smugmug.com/photos/14035079-M.jpg Not my house, but I wish: 86mm, 1/320sec @ f9 http://newms.smugmug.com/photos/14035089-M.jpg City buidings and boats: 70mm 1/400 @ f9 http://newms.smugmug.com/photos/14035085-M.jpg Mindful of bandwidth, the links are to medium size pix; you can view larger at my smugmug page if you prefer. See ya Trevor * - The Active setting has extra VR capability to allow shooting from moving vehicles etc. The Normal setting is for camera shake. Technology!
Thanks Chris - the technology is amazing. The size is still a tad unwieldy, but the results are really worthwhile. Cheers Trevor
It is quite amazing. There's no way to tell that you were 'mobile' whilst shooting those pics.
Nice demonstration, thanks. Steve.

Hi Killa Make you feel homesick? Are you from Brisbane or somewhere saner? How long since you've been here? Trevor
