People only go for this D2Xs if they can put their hand on the D2x.
If people already have the D2X, then please wait for the D3, not too far away, and this is "buying time" strategies from Nikon And it ain't cheap. D2Xs, When will it available? end of unknown year Birddog114

Thank god it's here!!!!
Now maybe the price of a D2x will drop by $3000 and I can almost afford one 2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Raskill, It was dropped and gone, not at AU$3000.00 but could not find another batch or becoming rare. Who's the lucky buggers got the special deal in the last two weeks? Congrats to all of them. Birddog114

Not really! Stay tuned for the next development Birddog114

That's not exactly an impressive upgrade.
With the capabilities of that sensor, they could have done a lot more for an "upgrade" in my opinion. That said, I like this option I read: D2Xs settings can be saved and loaded within the camera That could be quite nifty. Producer & Editor @ GadgetGuy.com.au

It's garbage! as I mentioned on another thread from anubis: "20 improved or new features" Who need them? Once again, to all the recently new owners of the D2X, you've done well and scored a top bargain of the year. Birddog114

Well, I like the concept of the masking system used for the hi-speed crop mode.. and the vaguely described "improvements" to focus tracking etc.. But still really just a minor upgrade than a new revision. As Birdy said, it's just a strategy to buy time until they can get the D3 out.
Well that's a relief!! Nothing in there that makes me feel less satisfied with my D2X
A lot of the features look like they are firmware updates. I wonder if we can expect one for the D2X or if Nikon will not offer it so as to try and make current users update. Things like 'more steps between Hi-1 and Hi-2' 'Sensor cleaning without AC adaptor' and a few others would be cool to have in a firmware update. Paul http://www.australiandigitalphotography.com
Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
We didn't need the AC adapter for years now. Who cares? Birddog114

the ability to save camera settings for different situations make this upgrade enticng but that feature has been present on the nikon coolpix series
if the sensor had been upgraded to 24 pixel that would be a significant upgrade
I think that even if Nikon DID have a 24MP sensor, they'd be sitting on it until the D3 is out. This seems to be very similar to the small minor upgrades like the D70-D70s etc. People buying new are happy to be getting a "newer model", but existing owners won't bother upgrading.
OK, that does it My 10 month old D2x is obsolete now........
So in order to help fellow members on the forum I willing to sell mine for a one time price of $7,000 Bidding starts now...ends when D2xs is available on shelf
Des, I said this before: D70 ------> D70s D2H -------> D2Hs D2X --------> D2Xs and finally will be soon D200 --------> D200s Last edited by birddog114 on Thu Jun 01, 2006 4:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.

It should be interesting to see if the D2X owners get a firmware update somewhere in the future to bring their cameras more into line with the D2Xs. At a glance it appears that the D2Xs gets a few minor (relative to a major design change) hardware and a lot of firmware improvements.
Cheers
Nikon will have a need in taking care of their Pro Body/Flagship customers...typically a firmware upgrade will not bring the D2x up to the "s" stage but business you would not do so until all stock was gone
Granted. Perhaps I worded that a little loosley. Maybe sometime after the release of the D2Xs... In a similar vein to the improvements in the D70 firmware v2. Nikon did also make some improvements to one of the D1 models (I cannot remember which) through firmware some time back, so the possibility of something similar for the D2X may not be entirely out of the question. Cheers
yep, that was the D1x...not long before the D2
seems a bunch of so-what to me also.

I cant see the point of so little changes, who would rush out to buy a D2XS for the sake of the veiwfinder being different. Not me, but yeh if u didnt have one then price was not a lot of dif, why would you?

for those interested in seeing the specs of the D2x and D2xs comparison here is a link:
http://nikonimaging.com/global/products/digitalcamera/slr/d2xs/index.htm The greyed crop area is interesting but there appears to be achange in the buffer on continuos shooting.....won't help me much with my 4 minute exposures Not a great deal of changes but changes none the less.... awww...the good ole days of film cameras and slower changes...and 1/3 the cost
If the upgrades were radically different (eg. new sensor etc) then it wouldn't be called a D2Xs, it'd be a new model.
The D2Xs is a refinement of the D2X - after the D2X has been out in the field, they've probably had feedback on what works well, what minor tweaks can be improved - thus the refinement to make an already great camera slightly better. Some of those improvements might seem very minor on paper - but out in the field, they can be quite useful (eg. configurable delay period for focus lock; easier HSC framing etc etc)
The D2Xs won't play a major role at this moment in Nikon game.
And it won't be there long. Most Pro shooters with Nikon, they all had the D2x long ago. Do they need upgrade? NO Does the D2Xs bring more benefits to them? NO What they want to see: New model and heaps of improvements More MP Perhaps FF Less noise or no noise w/ high ISO And less premium. So the new D2Xs is for the pro starter or someone, who has money but didn't have the D2x before. Not much of good respond and demand as the D2X when it first came out and will be the same story as of the D2H --------> D2Hs. And another factor, the D200 will bring lot of happy to the shooters once its supplies becoming available as normal. Why should D2X owner upgrade to D2Xs? Birddog114

I saw a D100 for sale - new(!) - in Hardly Normal this afternoon. For something like $2800.

Thom Hogan reckons most of the changes will become available for the D2X as a firmware upgrade September - December:
http://www.bythom.com/index.htm "... Nikon has indicated that all of the other non-hardware features will be made available to D2x users in a firmware upgrade this fall." How much credence you give Thom is up to you - on past performance I'd guess he's probably right on this one. As others said: the D2xs isn't an upgrade for D2x owners. It's there for people who are moving into heavy gear (eg from a D70), or for those who were about to upgrade their existing old (D1-, F5, F4 but *not* D2-) heavy gear anyway. For those folk- hooray! For everyone else - meh. Keith

The best upgrade of these 3 cameras:
D70 - D70s D2H - D2Hs D2X - D2Xs Would have to be the D2H to D2Hs, a major improvement in ISO Which is why I waited and very glad I did. Cheers Marc D4|D3S|D700+MB-D10| 14-24 |24-70|70-200 f/2.8 VRII|70-200 f/4 VR|80-400 AF-S|500VR|Sigma 150 f/2.8 macro|TC's 1.4,1.7E & 2.0III|SB 900
Aw heck... the worst part of the upgrade is that they've used a smaller font for the 's' designator...
Product image here Don't Nikon realise how hard it is to type D2XS? Fair dink, I'm switching to Canon Keith
I’m with you Marc - a fantastic camera Chris
