I like the new look, bit confusing at first (change can be sooo stressful), but it looks very professional, and once we are used to it, no doubt it will become second nature.

Thanks Leigh and Gary for all the work you put into this, it really is greatly appreciated.

Add me to one who favours this 'new look' - much easier to navigate and see things 'at a glance' :) Well done Gary and son :)

Yeah, well done Gary, Leigh.

Takes a bit of getting use to, but I quite like the new format.

Panicked a little when I refreshed though as I thought I did something wrong

Gary, Leigh (or is that Leigh, Gary) - gotta be democratic

Thanks for the work.

At the risk of being even more repetitive, I think the added bits are good - calendar and the user info box both will make forum use easier. I just caught up on the 39 posts since my last visit (insert vision of angel on shoulder saying "get a life stubbsy"). Previously I used to scan manually - don't know if it was there previously - even if so, the new layout helped me find it.

Sorry to ramble, but this clean look is a definite improvement.

Cheers
Peter

All,

Thanx for the feedback. Negative feedback is also (less) welcome. :)

Seriously, there are still some things to be added, like links to the memberlist, FAQ and usergroups, and we'll be putting back in the extra popular threads sections that are currently AWOL as well.

The calendar section is linking to a new database, and we'll also be dropping some of the merchandise we have onto the main page as well.

This format though does give us heaps more flexibility, so if you have some ideas, please feel free to throw them at us.

Enjoy.

Yep; that's a 30 second change for us, but (and I'm sure you're already aware of this) please note that the calendar functionality is the D70Users.com calendar, rather than any indivual person's one.

Love the new look... much easier to take it all in...

One minor request though... would it be possible to bring back the little indicator to the left of each forum section... the one that indicates if there are any unread items in that section... It makes it easier to track down unread items... rather than opening up each section to see the new items...

Otherwise v nice...

We'll look at that, but in the interim, I suspect you might find that the "View posts since last visit (7)" within your own profile section might be just as useful.

It is, as long you read them on during one visit - after that, it resets... The little orange indicators stay on until you read them all... even on multiple visits (usually)

Yeah, I echo this. Would like the orange thingos on forum name.

However, the view new posts is useful (so long as you read everything of interest every visit really) and the other stuff (calendar etc) is good.

Yes, you too can own your very own Onyx!
For only $18, you can own the guy in the top 4 position for posting on this forum! It's a one of a kind special... what a bargain!
(Oh, and it comes with a shirt too...)

Don't worry... we shot the D70 branded neck strap and D70 branded hand grip tonight... I'm just running them through PS now. :)

Can we get rid of the top ten posters list?! I don't believe it serves a postitive purpose, and the screen real estate could be better used for something else.

Also, since the Merchandise section is locked - why not get rid of it as a forum and have it as a separate webpage, with pricing and descriptions of each item and a link to buy: D70Gear email or something?!
(I got some generic looking product shots of the straps too - once Pixspot is up again you're welcome to rip them for any publicity use)

It's not so much locked, we just haven't linked it yet.
I'm going to later on, mind you, and we shot the strap last night as well, but we will link it to a thread soon.

Oh, and the top ten posters list is random... it's rotating with a couple of other features.

It's no mistake.

For those who are interested, (and I've not looked at the numbers today) we've had well over 50 new members join us so far this month, with 21 or 22 on just one day alone last week.

We is growing rapidly.

Onyx, as Leigh said, the top 10 posters is random, but I can also seed the randomiser so that it gets a lower priority.

I also don't much like putting the poll on the main page, but then again, I don't generally think much of polls anyway. Thoughts please ?

Thanx all for the comments.

This morning I'll be cutting over to the wider bandwidth connection. Look at the bottom of the screen sometime after about 7 this morning. If you see the server as being "giulia" you're on the fatter connection, if you see "giulia00" as the server, you're still on the older bandwidth and waiting for the DNS to catch up.

Leigh's put the logout plus memberlist stuff etc in a newer version of the page that I still want to make a couple of minor changes to; should be live with that later today.

Gary and Leigh - I am noticing some instability with my login - when going back to the Forum Index, I am occasionally being logged out.

Not sure whether it is just a bit of a transitional thing - anybody else having this happen to them?

There may ba a bit of instability as the DNS catches up with the changes, but I'm not seeing any logging out, and I'm actually accessing the site externally too.

Anyone else seeing what Greg's describing?

Gary,

I noticed a problem first thing this morning when posting. It has been taking quite a while to lodge a post, and then comes up with a screen reading 'Network Error'. But when you go to the post the message is there. I thought I would leave until I returned from shopping this afternoon. I have just experienced the same problem a short time ago.

Cheers,
fozzie

When people ask what equipment I use - I tell them my eyes.

Me too!

I've been having the same problem fozzie..

Also, has anyone noticed the time? Either everyone on the forum has become vampires or the clock is wrong!

The only problem I'm having with the new interface is the "View posts since last visit (x)" doesn't work for me! When I click on it I get a screen that says "No topics or posts met your search criteria" no matter what the number is in the brackets. About 1 out of 5 times I get the proper list with the posts.

I'm using Safari on OS X if that helps..

Hmm, both these things have been happening to me too, although the posts since last visit thing works about half the time. Time looks fine to me though.

Opera on XP here.

Cheers
