Backpack for 15" laptop + DSLR + LensesHey all,
Since I'll be going for a 4month trip to the US then to the UK in a couple weeks, I am looking for a single backpack to hold my 3 lenses and 15" powerbook. So far I could only find the crumpler ones (Keystone, Whickey & Cox, karachi Outpost) but they are $300+!!!! Does anybody know of a more reasonably price one? Thanks, Aleks
I think the Lowepro CompuTrekker might be what you're after.
Birddog is the Lowepro man here (also Gitzo guru and Nikkor expert!) - he's familiar with which of the Lowepro's are small enough for commerical carry-on. There's also the Lowepro CompuRover which is larger (I think). I think the NatureTrekker also has a lappy compartment as well. For me: I'm saving for the Karachi outpost. With my current Crumpler, I can't complain - the build quality of their bags is diametrically opposed to the usability of their website I think the bags were designed purely as an over-engineering exercise!
If you do go LowePro, Birddog is your man.
I got my bag from him and it was really cheap and I walked away a happy camper. I am assuming your in SA and even with the postal price, it still comes out cheaper. Cheers,

Aleks, I have the Computrekker.
It can easily hold a decent sized laptop, 3 big lenses plus dslr body plus other bits and pieces. I bought mine 2nd hand for about $120 I think, can't remember. $199 doesn't sound too bad a deal for a new one. Aleks,
it depends on your DLSR. If you have one without vertical grip (like D70, D200, etc) there's plenty of choice. If you have one that's 15cm tall (like the D2) the pickings are getting slim. I've got the Tamrac Cyberpack 6, which fits the bill. It was $180 from an eBay dealer in the US. I couldn't find it locally. It is a big backpack... Cheers Steffen.
