finally got a chance to ravage my hard disk and find my loire valley pics from france taken in january

my memory is cloudy but form the pics it seems the weather was great for winter

this is Château de Chambord

the morning light was gorgeous. 12-24dx + CPL

i was lucky enough to get some fog which makes this scene all the more romantic and nostalgic

Wendell #2 and #4 for me (4 is best). #1 the tree branches distract me from the image too much

Some great images there, particularly like the foggy outlook in #2 (I'm also thinking of a crop but maybe square?) but my favorite would have to be #4, I just love the long shadows...

Some great images here Wendell. My picks are #1(i think the branches tend to frame the image and contain the eyes within the image) #3 (lovely perspective that accentuates the architectural qualities) and

#4 -the shadowsand doorway light make this image. I would however suggest that a tighter crop (to juat shave off the ass of the figure bending over and include the window light) around the main subject, couple walking through main doorway, would focus the eyes on that point of interest and effectively remove the figure/s moving out of frame on far left side. I would even go so far to say a severe crop say to the column supporting the main doorway so that the columns width now defines the left hand edge of frame(its a big crop but D2X file can handle that ). You would then have the main sadow framed by the doorway light leading the eye to the portal and subjects. IMO it would make for a stronger composition in what already is a lovely image. Hope this makes sense wendell

fab and Gerard your lucky you visit europe on a regular basis lots of photographic opportunites everywhere. Gerard it was cold and on the same day it snowed but the morning light was just purrrfect.

chris your funny, but in all honesty when something half works you tend to improvise a little more.

1, 2 and 4 for me.

1 - Branches are distracting but I guess it goes with the territory. I think the most captivating thing about the image is the colour. It's what hit me first.

2 - Love the original but the quarter of the tree on the left needs to be cropped out. Otherwise it's perfect

4 - Nice and moody and well captured.
