Wish List:

Postby Raskill on Fri Jun 09, 2006 12:53 pm

Just trying to fill in some time until bub and mum wake up. Wondering what the wish list is for some of you folks out there (photo wise wish list that is, I don't care about world peace or end to starvation).

Personally I'm fairly easy to satisfy:

2x D200's, 2x SB800's, 1x Tokina 12-24mm, 300mm prime (either F4 or F2.8)

Anyone else out there want to share?
2x D700, 2x D2h, lenses, speedlights, studio, pelican cases, tripods, monopods, patridges, pear trees etc etc

Well, I think this can be broken down into the following:

Realistic: (* means I already have it)
D70s *
Tokina 12-24 *
Nikkor AF-D 80-200 *
SB-800 *
50/1.8 *
85/1.8
35/2
105 Micro

Nice to have (but still relatively achievable):
D200
Nikkor 12-24
Nikkor 70-200VR
2 x SB-800
85/1.4
105 Micro
50/1.4
35/2
20/2.8
10.5FE

"Hooray, I just won the lottery":
D2Xs
Nikkor 12-24
Nikkor 28-70
Nikkor 70-200VR
Nikkor 80-400VR
85/1.4
50/1.4
20/2.8
35/2
105 Micro
2 x SB-800
10.5FE

I'd like to be able to take better photos.

My gearhead wish is for a decent compact for serious photographers. A fixed, short lens with a big sensor and fast turn-on time. Imagine a 35mm equiv lens with a 1.5x crop sensor, f/2 or faster. Now put it in a small package with a fast turn-on time, ideally "instant" like many DSLRs. With a wide aperture focus could be snappy, and the big sensor would give low noise even at 1600ISO or so. But 24mm real focal length and f/1.4 is 17mm aperture, with a 24x17mm sensor so a 25mm thick camera should be able to have that lens built into it. You might have to screw in a lens hood if you wanted that.

What limits would I expect? SD cards and 2-3 fps strike me as likely, to keep size down and battery life up (small, slow cpu). Probably 6MP-8MP, likely the sensor out of the 350D or 50D depending on who makes it. Probably laid out like the small video cameras, possibly even with a flip'n'twist screen. Sheesh, if Panasonic can put a 3CCD HDTV video camera into this package, why can't we have a still camera like that?

(yes, I am tempted by that camera)

Tim depends on how much you want to spend but can get a fair idea of ebay. I emailed Dragon image who deals a lot in flash units and well i have seen some better prices on ebay, here is the reply i got.
We have 2x250ws heads kit @$1500.00
2x500ws heads kit @$1800.00

I think for what you want to do, 250ws might be a better option for you.

The kit includes 2 heads, 2 stands, 2 umbrells, 2x60cmx80cm soft boxes.

Bit pricey as could buy 500 ws with all the bits for around the $1500.00
I have been thinking about and will look into some while i am in Adelaide next week.
Cheers
John

Ive been pricing flash setups too.. and i really would like quality gear... unfortunately, for most things, i buy quality things so i dont have to replace them before I use them.. thats why I try and look after everything I get with the most care I can.. I priced 1 kit for $2500 for a pair of 500w's with umbrellas and soft boxs but it was top quality

A dual dual-core PowerMac, and 12 hours a day for PPing pictures.

I've already got more Nikon glass than I deserve, but maybe a couple of extra SB800s?

Cheers
Steffen.
