Packing for the World Cup

Ok guys, i'm about to sit down and pack for the world cup. Apart from the World Cup, I'll be doing a bit of travel around Vietnam, and western europe.

So the idea is to pack light, capture the wider moments of the trip and have a good time.

So this is what i'm packing and what i'm not sure about.

Packed
Fuji S3
12-24mm f4
28mm f1.4 - photos in a few german beer halls
180mm f2.8 - soccer shots
10.5mm fisheye - to small not to pack.

Not sure about
85mm f1.4 - would have to drop the 28mm to fit this
200mm f2 - to heavy

Padey, I envy you!

Do you have match tickets? If so, a humble, old and compact 400/5.6 might be worthwhile, too...

Apart from that, who needs a 200/f2 when you have the 180/f2.8? Not so sure about the 85/f1.4. Maybe you can drop the 28/f1.4 and bring the 85 plus a tiny 28 or 24/f2.8? Those two are hardly larger than a pack of mints

If you take the 12-24 (a given I suppose) you might leave the 10.5? Tough call. In the end, if you only have one body, most lenses you carry may go unused anyway (that's my experience at least, YMMV).

I'm going to all Aussie games and to as many beer halls as possible.

I forgot to mention, i could dump the 12-24 and take a 17-55mm instead, I'm just not sure. I'm hoping to get some nice landscapes in the alps.

For landscapes, I would go the 12-24, IMO 17 or 18mm is just not "quite" wide enough. On the other hand, the 17-55 would offer a more usable range for walkaround purposes... Tough decisions!

Good luck with the trip, should be a beauty. I am sure the boys will do us proud (I am under no illusions though, I reckon 2 draws would be a great result considering the opposition). I made the mistake of waking up early this morning to watch the scrappy game against Liechtenstein.

After a 4:30am start, and a 5pm flight back to Sydney tonight, it's-a gonna be a long day....

I think your list of "packed" items lacks the 85, but I'm not sure I'd be ditching the 28. Otherwise, you have nothing at all in the standard to mid-range area - (35 - 150) and for me, that would leave a very big hole in my shooting arsenal.

I would be tempted to drop the 28 for the 17-55, gives you a bit of mid range coverage. Just crank the iso up for the beerhalls, after an hour at one you wont remember to take shots anyway

I've taken gary's suggesting, and packed the 85mm. The fisheye is staying home.

While Im not in Germany I'm soaking up the atmosphere here in the UK. So far we've had beautiful days non-stop for the past week and a half. Every day blue skies and 20degC+ everyday. Today and yesterday both around 25-27degC. Germany has been getting the same sort of weather and today the England vs Paraguay game was in 30degC weather from what the commentators were saying. Believe it or not I actually have a tan Who said England doesn't get hot? This sort of weather is just fine for me.

The Sun, lol.......never even bother to check that shit newspaper. My uncle buys it religously though, but that I guess runs in the family as my Grandad used to buy it aswell. My old man tends to buy the local paper called The News or the Daily Echo. Which is probably a bit more equivalent to the Herald Sun style newspaper.

hmmmmm.......I use an 18-35 about 99.9999% of the time for my Landscapes/Seascapes........Often times I think we tend to use a "zoom" as convenience instead of actually stepping back.

Padey - for the soccer shots a 180mm 2.8 may not be enough. Bring the 200 f/2 and 1.7 TC. The shots will be sooo much better!

Then again not sure what the limitations are for entry into the games. Apparently security is very tight, they're even checking passports for some of the games according to the commentators.
