World Cup update number 1

Postby padey on Tue Jun 13, 2006 4:39 pm

Well that was huge!!! The noise was amazing. I´ve never seen that before. The closest was the 2000 Olympics.

I´ve made a rookie error, and that is to pace yourself throughout the cup, as I´ve lost my voice after the first game. But thats ok, it should be back in time for the Brazil game.

Kaiserslautern
When we arrived 3 hours before the game, the town was buzzing in a sea of green and gold. The main town centre was full of aussies and they were pumping out aussie music. Of course the Germans and Aussies are very simular in that it´s a hot day, time for a quality german beer. Everyone was in a good mood, even with a few token Jap fans who got lost and ended up in the town centre.

The game
After pub hoping our way to the stadium, bumping into the guys from the footy show, Reg Ragan, it was about a 10min walk to our entrance in the nose bleed section. We had blowup kangaroos and crocodiles in tow. I can tell you we were loud. It´s really hard to describe, so i´ll just record it at the Brazil game. About 2 hours of singing and giving to the ref. After the game it took us 15mins to even think about leaving.

For the historians, this is the first game we have won in the world cup, and first goal that we´ve scored. It´s a history maker.

After game
We wandered around Kaiserslautern with deflating kangaroo and croc. Skippy took one for the team, but dundee is still going strong. That´s ok, we´ve got 4 more roos ready to see a bit of game time.

We had dinner and drove home, about a 3hour trip. 370km in 3 hours, that tells you how good the roads are here, oh and that I´ve now seen a volvo XC90 do 210km/h legally.

We got home and watched the game on german TV. You couldn`t hear us as much on TV.

Now we rest our lungs and get ready for brazil.
Andrew

Heard the chant on TV about somebody being a wanker :) figured that came from the Aussie crowd.

Sounds like good fun.

After pub hoping...

Is this when it is about 2am and you're going from pub to pub trying to find one that will still serve you?

I appreciate the comment on the Volvo :D :D :D

The game couldn't be bettered. To go into the final 10 minutes with hopes fading and then resurrection!! It is why it's the World game. Looking forward to your on the spot reporting for DSLR Users. Small query...any snaps?
