Pixel peeping on the D200Just some links to full res images taken on my D200 at IS0 400, 800 and 1600.
Ran into a couple of Canon guys on the weekend who expressed doubt that I could get a decent image from the D200 at all Might be of interest. Even high ISO looks good to me (as it should on a well exposed image) All cameras are noisy if you grossly underexpose and try and drag back detail *All photos taken in Fine JPG mode, Sharpen +2, sRGB Mode III, NR off, Auto contrast Warning links are big! ISO 400 ISO 800 ISO 1600
Nice sharp images, nothing more to say
I like. Geoff

Living in poverty due to my addiction to NIKON... Is there a clinic that can help me?
400 and 800 definitely useable..1600 is a little "artistic"!! but i've never needed to go over 800 so that's me chuffed!
You should post these on dpreview - they're going nuts about D200 high iso being crappy over there! I agree with Michael..hippies!! Liam =]
I still wonder how many photos will you guys engage with ISO 1600?
With me, to be honest, I don't bother with ISO 1600. ISO 400 or 600 is the maximum, I mainly used and with fast lenses or on tripod. Birddog114

I'm like that to an extent. Gig photography has taken me to 1000 but never over that, if I need to go over it's either too dark and I shouldnt be shooting or I need faster lenses. Are we there yet?
dpreview - its not a photography site, its a techspec-arguing fanboy site - I can't be bothered arguing, just pick a camera and take photos
Well said No - VERY well said. Geoff

Here here! I visit there on odd occasions and pick (very sparingly) a few threads from the lists..even trying to filter out the tripe this way you still end up engrossed in some techno-who-gives-a-rats-arse crap. Slightly off topic: Last friday I printed some panoramics of a school concert I photographed. D70 at 800 ISO with the 80-200 2.8 at full zoom, 4 shots stitched together horizontally cos I didn't have time to get the entire stage in with vertical shots..anyway..the prints were 30cm high by 1200cm long. The client is wrapped - says they've never seen such clarity in their prints before! Good ol' D70! Gotta love it! Liam =] edit: and if they weren't on the server at work I'd post one for ya!!
Noise looks very low on these to me throughout all ranges and I would be very happy with that.
How much "less" noise must a person have at these iso levels All of these are capable of very large prints with no issues The advances in the digital iso's as opposed to film are remarkable....if you were to scan an 800 iso slide the comparison would blow you away.
Very interesting. Looks very good at ISO 800, even to me ISO 1600. With the D70 I don't like going past ISO 400. I've even been told that my ISO 400 images look a bit noisy, shrug. Out of interest what is they dynamic range like on the D200?
