You must be kidding or you do not understand what "lust" means. Anyway, once you decided to get something you want it as soon as possible, we are not talking Ferrari or RR, just a mass consumption item. We were aware of the different issues with the D200 but Nikon are really pushing their luck. If one uses Canon as a benchmark, Nikon deserves a 3/10 for efficiency. Gerard
Then jump ship is other choice! Not true! Canon has heap of problems when they first launched the Canon 1DS MKII, no stock and no stock for a long time, frustated and annoyed alot from Pro Canon shooters. I think, both Canon or Nikon or whomever, might have their problems in their manufacturing planning time to time, of course, they all want a great turn out to their profits, if not why they're there for? Birddog,
Jumping ship did come to my mind and go for a 5D. But I really like the lenses I have and the D2X is to me still a better (although different) camera than the 5D. I like the Nikon products and can't wait for the new toy. I probably may be unfair in some respect to Nikon, this may be the other side of lusting after their products . You are the one bringing some moderation and it's not an easy job. Gerard
glamy,
I understood the frustatation from everyone with the long waiting for their wanted toys or tool of trade. The problems has been discovered and learned by Nikon R&D Dept. they will not or never want to have another mass production with the same existing faults. Otherwise great debate and bashing will be floating all over the world. Maxwell, truly is just one of the victims inside the Nikon loop. Pls. take my advise, stay calm, be cool. Birddog114

Well... I phoned Maxwell again, and again I politely asked whether they have heard anything regarding the timeframe of D200 delivery.
They replied that they hope to have ALL BACKORDERS FILLED by the end of THIS MONTH!! So my birthday present (Feb) might be here in time for my wife's birthday (July)... Now for a prediction... Once all backorders are filled I reckon we are going to see HEAPS of them in shop windows. Reason? I reckon shops have seen how great an item they are and have backordered plenty extra from Maxwell, assuming they will only get a few - meaning they will have stock to sell. So when all orders are filled, all these backorders that shops have asked for will be filled and everyone can get one. Just a prediction, and if I'm wrong I can wear that. Basis? The one my friend bought from a shop in Hobart a couple of weeks ago was a brand spanker. Not ex demo or whatever. The shop only had it for a couple of hours when he chanced upon it and bought it an hour later. They actually had two - another member of this forum got the second. So if this shop can get stock from Maxwell before real customers that are waiting patiently for theirs (like me), they must have placed an order greater in quantity than what they had customers for. If this shop did, perhaps many other shops around Australia are doing the same thing?? Now I accept that I could be barking up the wrong tree, and step off my soapbox. It's all RANT as Birdy would call it, this is the place for me to have my rant. Who knows, could be Maxwell telling porkys again... We shall see. Share what you know, learn what you don't.

Sooner or later, the D200 will arrive in numbers. And there shall be great happiness. And there will be stock and prices will fall and Birdy will have some greys from HK supplies, and they will be not faulty, and the price will be lower and we shall buy.

This is probably going to make a lot of you spew or yell expletives at Maxwells, but I'll tell you what the owner of the shop told me when I bought that d200 that Adam is referring to. Wolfgang, the owner, told me that he got a call from Maxwells a couple weeks back saying he could have some d200s IF he prepaid for them upfront, not on his usual 30 days terms. This was near the end of May, so I suspect Maxwells needed the cash for some end of month reason or something. Anyway, Wolfgang ordered 3, paid for them on the spot and after he had sold the first 2 in a few days rang Maxwells for some more only to be told they were all gone, the deal went Australia wide and they all got snapped up real quick. This probably explains why people saw them in dribs and drabs all around Aus a couple weeks ago. There certainly sounds like there was something sleezy going on. These deals was "No Return or Cancel" policy after ordered and prepaid. And they're the first of second lot (batch) after all the problems & issues since it was released, and they were picked randomly to ship worldwide for perhaps a real testing or evals thru all the photogs. If there's no faults reports around the world than mass delivery will be soon. Birddog114

we'll i've been having lots of fun.
Been to about 12-15 stores here in tokyo and played with a ton of nikon gear. D200's are on display everywhere, and not on display behind glass. Bic Camera had 4 on long chains to use and abuse. D2H had been dropped and was covered in gaffer tape, D2X had a fish eye and by the time i had got bored firing off shots i had a queue behind me. the eos 5D sitting close by was not touched the whole time i was in that one store. cameras are cheap, cf cards are not. I've filled my 30gb psd and a 1gb card is close to 200 bucks, found a noname brand one today for 120, but i'm not paying that. pretty much resigned to buying an epson p2000 for $400 as its the same price here as two 1gb sandisk II 1gb cards a 4gb one is 600bucks, same price as the new epson p4500 here, which i considered buying and then selling when i get back. probably make some money on it as well. Simon
www.colberne.com.au I purchased a Teddy Bear this morning for the sum of $10. I named him Mohammed. This afternoon I sold him on E-Bay for $30. My question is, "Have I made a prophet?"
1Gb card in Australia is just 55 bucks, what wrong with buying a brand name 1Gb card for AU$55.00
A brand name 4Gb card in Australia is AU$130.00 -$150.00, you can bring it to Japan and resell it. Birddog114

I just heard from a friend that Camera Warehouse in Melbourne received 80 D200's and still have 120 on back order.
80 for one store is a GOOD SIGN! And another friend of mine now has one! Share what you know, learn what you don't.

YOU LITTLE BEAUTY!!!!! Like yourself, Tasadam, I have been waiting since last December for my D200 and it finally looks like the drought is broken. There have been some (not demos, either) floating around shops in Brisbane as well. Thanks for the great news. Cheers Michael
Hey Birddog,
You say a brand name compact flash card can be purchased in Australia for $130- $150. Where can I buy one for that price? Termy,

Yes, there's 4Gb CF 120x @$150.00, was $130.00 on special last Thursday & Friday. Did you know that if you have a D200 and a 8 Gig Card you can take 3 (basic) JPEG images every minute for 96 hours (that's 4 days straight) and still have room left for a few more.....that's around 18,000 images.
Only problem is that you would have to recharge the battery 36 times......the D200 has the WORST battery EVER...My D100 was MUCH better! Stuart 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
Stuart,
Clearly you're totally unhappy with the new acquisition. Please permit me to relieve you of it. And I'll even be so good as to swap it for my CP5700, which has truly ruly got super great battery life. You won't know how happy you were. g.

Guys,
Some D200's if u can't wait. Seems to be Japanese stock. http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/ [/url] Nikon D300, Nikkors 70-200 VR, 17-55, 50 1.4,18-200 VR etc
Interesting comment Stuart - Phil Askey (dpreview) lists battery life as a pro, "Good battery life". Your commenet "WORST battery EVER" is a scathing indictment, there have been some very poorly performing batteries. Are you inserting it the right way Greg - - - - D200 etc

I have only two past experiences to draw from, a D100 and a D2X.
The D100 battery performance I would rate as ABOVE AVERAGE (exceeded expectations), the D2X as EXCELLENT (way beyond my expectations) and I rate the D200 battery as BELOW AVERAGE (failed to meet my expectations and also fails to meet the specs in the manual)
Are we still talking about the battery? 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
Then here's mine - only with BEER Geoff

Does anyone know the diffrence between japanese stock and aussie stock in the D200, advertised at DD photographics ? mine is japanese , but never used an aussie one , so I am not sure, only thing , I got a copy of the manual as mine is all in japanese,

On the battery issue I'd have to say it's a short life, enough to shoot with but IMO buy at least one spare. I have a spare and am looking at getting at least one more if not two. I've never had to do that with any camera before although this is my first DSLR.
I just noticed smac lives in the same suburb. Maybe it's a local phenomeon.
Apsilon - good idea - I think at least one spare is a good idea, if not two.
Looking forward to seeing some of your images soon. Geoff

Hi Suzanne, mine is Japanese stock, and apart from having to get an adaptor for the plug on the charger and an English manual (which the Japanese retailer had under the counter), I don't think there is any difference between models in different countries. Stuart 'Tis better to have loved and lust than never to have lust at all.
Battery is not that bad IMHO, I got 500 images before I decided to charge it (still had 2 bars left) - battery life should get better with some use I fully expect to easily get 700-800 shots from a charge with moderate LCD chimping (make sure you turn off autopreview of shots, turn the metering down to 4s (from 6s)) and turn down the LCD backlighting to -2 Enjoy the D200 Geoff - its a great camera
