Ok I am not sure how to write this I do better work with a camera than words, so here goes.

Thank you all, I have for many years lamented that photographers do not share information and advice, In the past I had a few photographer friends and we would share our passion and experience and experiences but it was not a common or easy thing to do.

The great majority of working photographers closely guarded any information lest someone get a commercial edge on them.

I did investigate an Association of Independent Posing Photographers but found them to be a very select precious little club who would only talk amongst the elite members, as a photographer from regional Australia I was very persona non grata.

On this site I now find an amazing openness and sharing of skills talent and ability. I am sure this is raising not only our individual talents but that of all our photography as we try and go one better.

I was taught photography by some amazing photographers who shared their skills with me.

I had always wished there was a society where I could just live and talk and immerse myself in my passion and share some of what I have been taught to others.

I also enjoy the trust of people willing to loan some very valuable equipment and offer some amazing deals to other members.

I have been meaning to write this for some time now but never quite had the words I still don't have it quite right but I hope you get my drift.

Again to all involved in Dslruses but in creating it and using it.

Thank you

Cheers doug

Dug

I have to disagree with you. This place sucks. Since I found this place my photography has emptied my bank balance and made me realise how far I have to go to become good at my passion.

Seriously I would like to echo your well put sentiments. This place is the fantastic resource it is because of the time and effort put in by the membership as a whole and each and every one of use can take a bow. On top of that we are indebted to Gary for setting up & managing the thing, Leigh for making the bloody thing work properly and the moderators for ummmm moderating. Not to mention Birdy for fueling and then satisfying our lust.

On top of all that, the opportunity to see the work of many different photographers is a constant source of inspiration and enjoyment which pushes me to be better at my work.

Dug, I can only echo your sentiments here.

Congrats to Gary, Leigh and the moderators for fostering the community we have here.

Birddog also gets a special mention due to his committed generosity, time and work as a lust mentor. I'm sure without his encouragement and special bargains, many of us would be shooting with lower quality glass (but much richer too :) )

The thing that truly makes this place unique is how it crosses over from the online world to the physical. I've come to personally know many people that I wouldn't have otherwise.

Keep it up everyone.

Well said Doug, I think we all empathise with you but don't always take the time to reflect on what a great community we're all part of.

Dug, and others - I sincerely hope you do make it to the 2nd Anniversary meet in Sydney in August, basically to show gratitude to the forum founders (amongst the partying) for the very reasons discussed in this thread.

I can't believe it's only been two short years, it has felt like a lifetime and I honestly can't think of my life before these forums existed! :)

Thank you one and all, and let's hope England wins the world cup. ;)

I've been on quite a number of online forums, messageboards and mailing lists in my time... And I can say without fear of contradiction that dslrusers is without doubt the friendliest, most helpful and welcoming of the lot (just beating my previous favourite, the old Harmony Central Guitar Forum). This is simply a brilliant community in every sense of the word. With no other online communities have I met such genuinely nice folk, both virtually and personally.

Special mention to the forum staff and of course to Birdy, but while we're all in the mood.. I'd like to thank ALL MEMBERS of this forum for making it the great place it is. You all have absolutely no incentive to stay and make this such a wonderful forum, but we all do anyway.

Hoorah for everyone!
