A guy is selling a nikon 300mm lens on Ebay, has 100% feedback record and all seems well.
When I looked at what items he had sold recently, on 4-6-06 he sold an identical lens with a serial number 203532 the one he is selling now is 203533
The other transaction seemed to go through ok so all is legit.
I am curious to know how easy is it to get consecutive serial numbers if you were to buy two lenses at the same time.

Although I cannot say I have ever bought two identical lenses at the same time I guess all that needs to happen for them to have consecutive serial numbers is that they leave the factory in the same batch --> arrive at supplier and are then distributed in the same batch --> the two with consecutive numbers get picked together at the store. not impossible i guess, even more likely if it was a special order or something.

During my stint at HKSupplies I do recall seeing numerous batches of consecutive serial numbered lenses and bodies. Not that big of a deal at the wholesale to retail level, but for a supposed retail buyer... well maybe not quite up there with hen's teeth.
I have bought two lenses from the US before and received consecutive serial numbers. It can happen but I would still be a little wary.

As an aside, the seller says this about this lens... "Fast, constant f4 maximum aperture" How could it be anything but constant, it's a prime not a zoom. __________

Still a good deal I reckon. Apart the rubbed tripod mount ring the lens seems to be in good nick. If I didn't already have the screwdriver AF version I might have gone for this one. Cheers Steffen. lust for comfort suffocates the soul
